Thanks so much for the update.

I'm not quite ready for non-neutral footwear, so glad I didn't go for the wine - though it sounds lovely and was, I think, Angie's recommended colour in this pair. Your reply

Robin,I saw 3 colors of the Franco Sarto booties at our Nordstroms today. I want to amend my observations from the online photos. The toes did not look darker and worn like in the photos. The wine color looks deep red in real life, not brown. It's a rich color. The Truffle is a taupe, a good neutral. The other I saw was black. It was not shiny at all. I liked the look and double zipper styling and may consider the wine color myself at the sale price if I have anything left to spend.

Robin, the Franco Sarto booties that Kari recommended come five colors. All have darker toes than the boot color so that they look a bit broken in. Black and grey (which looks more like a medium taupey brown) both have a black heel and sole.
Truffle, Whiskey and Wine all look like shades of brown on my monitor. Truffle is a lighter taupey brown on a stacked dark brown heel and sole.
Whiskey is a warmer medium brown, almost orangey. The heel and sole are dark brown.
Wine looks like a dark warm brown with a very dark stacked heel and sole. It doesn't look red at all to me. Let us know if you have more questions.

Robin, I also have wider toes than heels, and prefer a low stable heel for all the walking around I do in the city. I wanted to throw in a shout out for these Franco Sarto booties that are a little lower height on the ankle than those that you collected here, but are so comfy.

I've heard wonderful things about both of the Munro boots you collected, especially the Lexis. I like how the Lexi has the contrasting material along the back of the heel.

Just wanted to add, I think there would be enough room for the front of your foot in this shoe. I don't like to feel squished at all in the toes, and the Pirlo is pretty rounded.

I have a long, narrow low volume foot and Born in general is a brand that works well for me. I just got the Born Pirlo today. It fits very similar to the Raisa boot. I am happy with them and I don't find them too heavy, although I have never minded a chunkier shoe. There was plenty of room (true to size), but not too much for me. I did consider the Munro, but since I have to do it all by mail, I decided to stick to a brand I know well. Good luck.

I don't know how to decide except by trying them on, Robin.
I have the Munro Lexi and love it. I usually take a 7W in Munro, but in this bootie I took a 7.5 medium, for what it's worth. It seemed to run a little short.
I've found Paul Green boots to be extremely stable, regardless of heel height. And they are very well made.
The Borns look really stable to me, too, because of the low heel. I think Borns are super comfortable. I tried on a similar boot last year and would have gotten it if it weren't so similar to something I already had.
And I love, love my Kork-Ease booties--not the ones from NAS, but a different style. Again, very, very comfortable, supportive and cushy insole, and very stable heel and sole.

Hi Robin, like you I have a low volume foot and narrow ankles. I've found that for me, boots that are a bit higher than the ankle work better. One of the best boots I've found is one that looks quite a bit like Angie's recommendation the "Ecco Touch 15" Buckle Boot. The Ecco boot has a low heel as well.

Thanks everyone.

Diana: Great point about ankle measurements. Mine mesure between 8 and 9 inches around.

Having never tried ankle boots before, I don't know: Is it essential to have a snug fit between boot and ankle?

Angie: Thanks for the input. Re shopping in-store, I'm feeling kind of hermit-ish this weekend, so will probably just order a couple of diferent pairs to try here at home and go from there.Shoe shopping has been stressful in the past. :)

I have problem feet but these boots are comfy and even though they are suede, I've done just fine with them the one week of the year I am in Chicago at Christmas time. So far.

I haven't tried any of these options, Robin, but your feet sound quite similar to mine. Pancake duck feet, right? ;)

I will say that I have had limited success with this type of shoe. I do much better with a boot that comes up a little higher on the ankle as those tend to be less gappy. (With a low volume foot, you also tend to get extra space in the instep (i.e. the top of the boot over your foot will have extra room) which can exacerbate the look of the ankle gap on a lower boot. I do wear orthotics (superfeet) which help take up some but not all of the excess room.

Something like this Paul Green boot (which was an Angie pick as well but spendy) with a 6" shaft usually works for me. I personally also find the higher shaft more supportive of the ankle.

I notice that these styles (with the exception of the halogen, which doesn't say) all have the ankle circumference listed as around 11". For me this would be too big - my larger ankle measures 8" around. It would probably help to measure your ankles to be sure.

I'm looking through Angie's footwear picks and can't decide what to order.

Booties are new to me.

Can you help me whittle down this list? (Or should i just go ahead and order six pairs of shoes to try?)

I have what I think are fairly low volume feet, with toes much wider than the heels. My ankles are fairly narrow, and also not very strong. My balance is poor, so I need a stable sole.
