That can be so frustrating, but at least you know what you don't want. That's half the battle I think. Have you considered looking at second-hand stores? Sometimes I can find fairly classic tops since the retail stores aren't featuring any I want to buy right now. You could always mix them with more modern pieces so you don't feel dated (boy do I hear you on that one)!

I know how you feel. Shopping marathons are always tiring and some times demoralizing. Some days I have seen so many clothes that I feel I shopped a lot and spent a lot of money but in reality just bought 1,2 items.
Sorry, back to you.
The upside of this days is that in the long run what you buy is really what suits yu and you will wear for a long time.
hang in there , nice summer tops will come.
Oh, I hear you sister! Well, you commented on my tops thread, so you know we are on the same page.

I wish I had some answers.

But I do agree with Donna's take on this. You are doing yourself a real favour by exercising PPP.

Of course when the two of us are going around topless this summer, we may not feel that way!

You might consider looking for elbow-length tops. I'm having good luck with them not over-emphasizing my IT shoulders.
Thanks everyone! DonnaF, that is a brilliant, soul restoring take on my afternoon. And others, thanks for the support.

Suz, Glory, I sort of do have narrowed down what I'm shopping for. My work is very casual but I'm constantly around people younger than me. I would like to not look dated or frumpy...main style goal. I find winter so much easier to shop for because I like sweaters and scarves...black pants, plain sweater, pop of interest in the scarf, I'm done.

Summers are harder. I've just never liked summer clothes as much. But what I'm looking for I guess I would just describe as glorified T-shirts. Something simple in a pretty color. I think my figure is the problem...described elsewhere as Lovely Linebacker...probably IT. Also boobylicious, but small overall.

So, clothes issues...I'd buy anything that didn't over emphasize my shoulders and bust. Which just about everything I tried today did. Cap sleeves are evil and still seem to predominate. I'm not against sleeveless but the ones I tried on today did not flatter. For the past several years I've been mad about tiers, but really didn't like today's offerings...so that may spell problems for the summer clothes I haven't gotten out yet!!

One thing I learned for sure...I do better shopping often but for shorter periods of time. Today's marathon was due to meeting my mom at the mall. 76 years young and that woman can shop me into the ground!

Anyway, thanks! And if anyone has found a white top that is opaque enough to not be see through, let me know!

Congrats on not buying those 39 other items you tried on! Congrats on not *settling* just to get it over with. Congrats on not having those 39 items in your closet teasing you and making you unhappy. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are wardrobes, WNTW aside. And I do think some of the beneficiaries of WNTW probably decide once they home that the clothing just doesn't *feel* like them.
Peri you and I are at the same stage I think. I purged so much and now need to shop. I don't really have a plan, I have a ton, I really mean a TON of returns to make from the past 3-4 weeks - all mistakes, nothing makes me feel fab. I wonder if having a style goal would help. Would it help to plan a few capsules? Perhaps we can help each other with that.. Do you have some style descriptors, are you looking for casual wear?

I can empathize with you...some shopping trips are just like that for me. Then one day I'll go for something like a new lamp shade and will stumble across an incredible sale that features everything I wanted, but at a steal of a price. What happened? Who knows. Good luck, your day will come!

Just spent about 3 hours trying on clothes....ready for a nap.

And no success either. I must have tried on 40 things...and bought one. A blue cardigan that is already almost past season...but at least will finish an outfit that needed it and be useful in several ways.

everything else just looked strange on me. No happiness factor at all today. I'm afraid I will rid my closet of all the clothes that make me feel not fab and either replace them with more of the same or only have five things to wear!

I think I'm echoing RacheyLou, but I usually start a season with high hopes and then crash and burn when I try to find things. Angie, come shop with me!
