I need to be here--thanks for starting the thread Khris! I have an unfortunate weakness for discounts and coupons on top of sales. But I think I am being discerning as far as what I buy, because I end up returning a lot of stuff (even those that get a fair rating here!).

I guess my current "strategy," as it were, is to keep the tags on all new clothing purchases and let them sit around for a few weeks (as close to the return period as possible). A lot of the time, I find something else I'd rather spend the money on, so then I am able to return the older items. But it requires great willpower not to rip the tags off and wear away.

Angie -- great idea about remixing! I'd been into that.

Khris what a great idea for a thread!

I'm definitely on a permanent shopping diet due to budget constraints LOL

But, thanks to YLF I am seeing so many more holes in my wardrobe, but also stopping and thinking a whole lot more about what individual pieces I need to add...

Having said that though, if I go op shopping (thrifting) and find some lovely dresses I rarely leave them in the store - I think I have this mentality that for $4 I can easily buy any dresses I want... but the reality is that I have bought a couple that aren't really that great a deal and could have saved my $4 for an even better dress on a different trip... without filling up my wardrobe with orphans...

Chewy, I've been thinking the same thing. I too still have holes in my wardrobe. This is the first season that I have really bought more than usual because I feel like I am really at my goal weight. I thought that last fall too and now have many things that are too big. Just today, a pair of hot pink skinny ankle jeans from NY & Co followed me home--$10. I would have bought more if they had had other colors in my size.

How about a series of outfit remixing threads? Those will help motivate the dieters.

Kim has been writing about going on a shopping ban, but a complete ban doesn't make sense for me right now. I spent April really filling up some holes in my wardrobe, so I am in decent shape for the spring/summer. Because of my quickly revolving wardrobe, there is always something that I "need", but I am limiting myself to a single item (cost amount to be determined by what I can squeeze out of the weekly budget) per week for a while. So, call it what you will- a shopping diet, limited spending, a budget, frugalising- I know there are others here who are wanting to cut back.
Post here for support on cutting back your fashion spending, and if there's interest we can do a check in thread once in a while.
