I did wear regular Birks as a teenager too, so it’s possible they just work for me overall.<br /> I highly recommend people with average or narrow feet try a size down in Birks, it made all the difference for me when fitted at an orthopaedic store by an SA who insisted on it. The right fit for me is a 37. I’m normally a size 8 and previously wore the 38s. In the size down the width is perfect, my feet just fill the shoe lengthwise (no gap), and there’s no gripping to keep the shoe on. Huge difference.<br /> Kelly, I’m all about the slip on! I really want the Merrells too, but I’m afraid if I get them I’ll be sick of those colours by the time I need the Birks. I like the Merrels a lot but love the ease of a slip on. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Reminds me of much-coveted grey felt Birk clogs my BFF had in the late 90s. I love the pink but it feels quite borderline though, the border being between "coolish DYOT 40-something" and "Giant Toddler". The yellow also available does not appeal as much. These probably aren't practical in such a light coloured suede over time. I think I have talked myself out of them.</p> <p>They have the same colours in the Arizona softbed sandals. I think the pastels in suede would get dirty fast. I do need to replace my old workhorse pair due to visual wear to the rose gold finish (still worn around the house - the quality is there). For those who have posted that they find Birks uncomfortable, the softbeds might be worth a try. I was also fitted at an ortho store for a size down than all previous measurements have indicated, such that there is NO room at the end of the shoe which other salespeople frown at, but the width is perfect and I don't have to grip the shoe at all to keep it on. I am now Birks for life provided I can find the right looks.&nbsp;<br />None of the Birks are available in Canada yet, not to mention it's still very much winter here, so no rush to decide on these. I guess I am "forced" to order the Merrells ;)</p>
