Notasf it is wonderful to see your Spring and Summer purchases, the VB suit is such a wonderful addition to your wardrobe.

This Australian winter I have surprised myself by rediscovering neutrals in tones of beige, camel and brown. I have added a number of second hand items - the Burberry trench and cognac handbag were both second hand but new to me. I was thrilled to buy them and have been getting good use of these new items. Jeans, knits and boots is my uniform at the moment and I have been adding a daily scarf.

Great job staying on top of all this! Your newest acquisitions look wonderful.

After a year of buying very little clothing other than gear, I've had a bit much fun this spring and summer. I managed to replenish my rather tired collection of shorts, and have been wearing the new ones a lot. Also added a few new sleeveless summer tops, which I can't say I *needed* but it sure has made getting dressed more fun than reaching for the same old tees over and over. I also am enjoying the new sandals I got this spring, getting a lot of wear out of the new styles.

Last month I did score a lovely Veronica Beard blazer in a blue tweed, as well as a cashmere sweater in watercolor shades of blue and another in shades of pale blue/green camouflage, even though it will be too hot to wear those for at least another month or two.

And now there is NAS, and it looks like I'll have a few keepers from that, including at least a couple of new pieces of outerwear. I already committed to new silver sneakers and a gunmetal crossbody from the sale. Holding out hope for new light wash bootcut jeans and the houndstooth sweater vest.

I’m not really buying clothes now, other than underwear, shoes, and perhaps a coat. Oh, and I’ve gotten 2 pairs of jeans this year.

Well there! Consider me a new (how did I miss all of this? ) fan of your style and your wardrobe skills. I like finding a style "mentor" or inspirer here on YLF that I can look to for ideas and the boost I need to stay on track. Sorry - I sound like a teenager - lol. I love those MD jeans, and I'm really tempted to order, but I had such an issue with my last (and only ) pair from them in terms of outrageous stretching , that I'm tentative to try again. Love the Ann Taylor blazer in particular too.

Irina -- Thanks for the kind words! I love everything I've seen of your style on the forum this year, so it means a lot. Camel is a great fall color: if you're looking for it, you're most likely to find it then. I also have black shoes and bags for fall, and that's ok. Black still does good work to ground my wardrobe and is something I still wear when I want to look serious.

Roxanna -- I used to use Stylebook before I started with Finds. I think Finds is wonderful for wholistic overview of the wardrobe and for shopping. Stylebook was great for outfits and wear-tracking, but since I'm such a mix-and-match dresser, that feature ended up being less useful.

Shevia -- Fisherman sandals and summer dresses sounds like a perfect look for you!

Suntiger -- You are one of the masters of the palette-driven wardrobe! Will be fun to see you refresh your neutrals. Good luck!

Love your teal suit and camel collection! I've been slowly trying to add light neutrals too, camel and beige, since they've been available. Starting to work on my transitional/cold weather shopping early. Just simple, classic, neutral pieces this year.

I’m so impressed with your white and especially camel collections. Everything works together and it looks very cohesive to me. Always inspirational, I must check your collections once in a while to remind myself to be more focused.
I started the year with the intention to expand my camel capsule and compliments. But got lost somehow and don’t know where I’m going with it. Decided to reassess it in the fall.
I’m into fall/winter shopping mode. A dress from COS is going to be last summer purchase, probably. Woolly things are coming my way -sweaters, hats and a scarf. I’m adding to my winter cream and beige capsules. Still looking for a cream bag but kind of accepted that my shoes and bags for F/W will stay black.

Gah! Lost part of my response! I wanted to THANK YOU for inspiring me to get my wardrobe cataloged into Finds! I made it a Christmas holiday project and now everything, except underwear and fitness kit is documented.

I shopped for summer in February and March based on my ‘counting wears’ experiment of 2020. April was ‘no buy’. Purchases in May, June, and July are below in ‘Finds’ and are a mix of ‘emotional’ choices and early F/W items.

Kelly -- I have gotten totally out of the habit of doing outfit shots but perhaps should try to start again. That had a lot to do with my failing old phone, which I just replaced (two of my purchases this month are phone accessories), so it would be a good time to get back to it!

Sal -- you make me miss my happy cool weather clothes! I've been enjoying what little heat we've gotten so far this summer, but will be glad for sweater weather too!

Carla -- What an interesting thought: you're so observant! Certainly, my New England city is very casual, so that's different from London, and summers are much more casual for me. The shift to gear and athletic clothes is totally lifestyle driven: I've really taken up walking and hiking since coming back to the US last summer. But I don't mix! Activewear for activities only! Funny what you say about a younger vibe, since 40 is just around the corner.

I’m seeing a bit of a pendulum swing - urban minimalist career when you were in the UK, swinging through more casual style and gear when you relocated stateside, and adjusted to WFH. Now, with the return to the office in the future - a return to more structure. Do you see US work and recreation capsules differently than when you were across the pond? The ‘light’ is different. Societal norms are different. Still a neutral palette - but lighter, and a strong sense of practical utilitarian - but less structure and more ‘off duty’ clothing. I’m seeing a little less starch and a younger vibe since you returned to North America.

Lovely additions and great work stepping back from black if it is no longer appealing. It is all well thought out.

For me the last two months have mostly been about jeans and either blazers or knitwear/coats. It has been cold and/or wet. I have added new cords and a sweater dress as my closet was leaning too transitional. I needed some warm winter pieces to make June- August less repetitive.

It's been a while and seems a good time for a round-up post of late spring and early summer shopping and dressing.

Two other favorite purchases that haven't yet any wear yet are a white linen blazer from Ann Taylor (ready for end-of-summer in-person meetings: the version I have actually has scrunched sleeves) and stacked sandals from M. Gemi (waiting for high summer dinners out).

A few things that I've been wearing regularly and happily are:

1) Massimo Dutti wide leg cropped jeans (lemminged from Irina), which really elevate a half-tucked tee or tank top
2) Old Navy cotton blouson top in black (inspired by Helena), which is great to throw on with jeans or shorts
3) Square-toe Sam Edelman flats in cognac, which I like so much I've just duped
4) An oldie-but-goodie Gucci tote that I reserve for summer months

My style continues to be neutral, classic, and "softly utilitarian." Aside from the black top I mentioned here, Angie and others may be interested to know that I've otherwise bought basically no black in 2021 and have really leaned into other neutrals. A big change!

I'm still looking for a couple more button-down shoulder-covering tops that can be half-tucked for high summer. I'm set for footwear and outwear for fall but may look for a heavier version of my beloved Theory trench for next winter (though probably not in black!). And I'll keep adding to my gear and activewear: looking forward to a running shoe refresh after having added a great pair of trail runner last month.

Thanks for reading. What have you been wearing/buying lately?
