Of course, cashmere would be nice. It shouldn't be rough or scratchy, but IIRC he is sensitive that way so would notice the problem right away.</p> <p>Double buttons, meaning a small button on the back side to support the large button. Extra buttons either sewn in a unobtrusive place or in an envelope attached to the coat.</p> <p>Lining that doesn't feel cheap and isn't sewn with huge stitches.</p> <p>My experience with blazers/jackets and really other clothing has been that the more expensive stuff is much more accommodating when it comes to weight/size; it just hangs better. So he should try on the proposed coat with various weights and thicknesses of sweaters and sweatshirts.</p> <p>Oh, and btw, I have virtually NO recent experience with buying winter coats. Last winter coat I bought was 45 years ago.
