I've had success putting my orthotics (and my superfeet green insoles) into a variety of shoes, including cheapo flats and Doc Martens. I frequently take them with me when shopping to see if they will fit.

Ecco shoes are awesome with orthotics! The footbed is usually removable.

As for sizing up, I'm technically a 10.5, which doesn't exist in most brands, so when I buy 11's, I can usually fit my orthotics in even if the footbed isn't removable. If I'm shopping in person, I make sure to take my orthotics with me and try the shoes on with them.

I second the Ecco brand suggestion. I recently bought a pair of boots in the Ecco Sculptured line. First time out of the box, I wore them 8 hours with my orthotics. The Sculptured Lace oxford (much cuter in person than on web) might be an option with skirts and pants. http://www.zappos.com/product/7814794/color/84

Have a look at Ziera Shoes. I buy something from this range every couple of years

Some are specifically marked as suitable for orthotics

I think a lot of Naot shoes have removable footbeds to accomodate custom orthotics.

I have many clients who wear orthotics. Have you tried going up half a size in flatter boots? The orthotics tend to fit quite well in a larger size closed shoe. Noats and Ecco are worth a try.

I like booties with a mid-heel. These might accommodate your orthotics. I don't exactly wear orthotics, but I do put Superfeet insoles into most of my boots and booties in the winter, provided they do not make the shoe too tight. They are fairly substantial insoles, not those so-called 16 hour spongy ones they sell at the drugstore.

I have put these insoles into many kinds of boots including these:

The shoes this season are cute, but nearly impossible for someone like me to wear. I require deep-bed orthotics in my shoes or I end up with terrible back pain.

What styles/designers to you recommend for someone who can't wear the platform pumps?
