You are right though, most shops/brands do stop at a size 10 or 11. </p> <p>I agree with Maya... boots will be your best friend. I moved from CA to IL and boots are all I wear in the fall/winter. I am unwavering about this. You can wear Cons in the fall and maybe winter (DC is further south so maybe it gets warm enough there for them), but boots are far more versatile, warm, practical, and comfortable in the winter. I would not wear anything else with socks. You don't need 3" heels. I think there is room in every cold-weather closet for a sweet pair of flat riding boots.</p> <p>For now, how about some oxfords? I admit I wear socks with flats and pumps sometimes, but I really do think you need to have a certain personal style to pull this off. I get cold easily, and this is the easiest way for me to stay warm. I love Gap's argyle socks, especially.<br /> - flats or a short wedge<br /> - something that *could* go with brown or black. I know people say to wear them together, but it doesn't always work well.<br /> - something not too expensive.
