Echoing the others, Porto involves walking and hills requiring comfortable shoes and stability on uneven surfaces. A breathable shoe or sneaker with good traction would be at the top of my list along with the new loafer if they can go the distance if the weather is warm. The boots, though great, should probably sit out this trip.

I like the chunky loafers or flats that have a non-smooth sole, if they are comfortable. I've learned my lessons on Iberian cobblestones.

Angie - I will try to break in the loafers this week.

Irina - That's so great that you'll be in the Lisbon. We plan on spending the 8th in Lisbon and flying out on the 9th. I had a pair of All Birds but had to get rid of them since the toe area got a hole. I'l have to revisit. The boots are so comfy and I'm so ready for Fall to get here.

LIsa - Blisters are no fun.

Jaime - rain is always a problem any time we travel.

Agree with all of the above - only shoes that you have walked in for distances and are rain compatible.

I echo others, you must break in the shoes you take. I learned to stick with tried and true shoes, versus new one's. I've had it happen too many times that shoes that are normally fine, suddenly when I travel and am walking a LOT more they are horrible, blisters everywhere. Because of this, I always take extras too, and make sure the colors will work well with any outfit, just in case the original shoe I planned to wear, suddenly isn't comfortable during the trip.

I wouldn't take anything without good traction, if it rains, you could slip on cobblestone's or tile.

Also, I always take the band aid blister band-aids. Just in case I need them. Bandaid blister

I don’t know if it helps but I would take a pair of sneakers.
In fact, I’m taking it :)
We will be in Lisbon October 7 to 15th and I will be taking knitted oxfords and leather sneakers with me. We will be in Lagos (beach town) before coming to Lisbon and I’m taking Allbirds flats and either Colombia slides (more likely) or leopard flats.

I’m a bit surprised by your choice of boots - it might rain in Porto but the weather should be reasonably warm. But this might be me, I don’t wear boots unless it’s cold.

What Suz said :)

Naz, you MUST break in the new shoes first - before you travel - to make sure they go the distance!

They needn't be sneakers, but you need to take shoes that you can walk in for miles. Supportive, cushioning and comfy. If it's hot, they might be sandals.

And YES to packing options!!!

Suz - Thank you. I may have to rethink the shoes i'm taking. Also, I got rid of a lot of shoes in the Spring.

I wouldn't take one without traction there. If it rains, the stones will be slippery.

I'd also be wary of taking brand new shoes unless you are 100% sure of the fit. Especially shoes without a strap, due to slippage in the back and possible blisters.

But I am all in favour of taking as many shoes as you can fit in your luggage. Because a change really is as good as a rest.

I have a bad habit of taking way too many shoes to my trip because I have fussy feet. I almost never take tennis shoes or hiking gear, unless it's a total outdoorsy get away.

The first 2 shoes in #1 (new loafers and booties) are the ones I plan to take on my trip. I want to take one more shoe with me so help me decide which pair. I'm thinking the beige one made my cushioned Sketchers, however the red ones are calling my name but have no traction at all.
