Fryes are always my first choice! I think we're fashion twins: our colors & inclinations sound the same. I just did a fall subbing capsule of shoes: some taupe nubuck mini cheetah dolce vita oxfords I already had, gorgeous pewter Gentle Souls fisherman sandals that are almost like an oxford, Gentle Souls Bayco ballet ghilllies in black, and some cognac BCBGeneration D'Orsays with big exaggerated ankle straps. I have to wear flats with closed toes to work in special ed, and I move around a lot & get dirty at work too. We'll have warm weather thru the end of October, then I'll break out the boots. I like your shoe choices a lot.

So, is there a pair of transitional shoes I should be looking for, or would it be better to wait and suss out a 3rd boot style once all pants options are squared away?

First of all WELL DONE.

Second, the footwear you have - bar the clogs - should work well with your new skinnies. You might need to adjust proportions with the BFs.

Third, the Fryes and Docs are excellent choices for the skinnies. Docs DO have a break-in period before they become very comfy though.

I think some lower heeled menswear inspired oxfords or loafers would add, especially something that you would wear with skirts and tights. I love the detail on the Miz Mooz oxfords, but they aren't stand all day shoes. These grey ones are what I am thinking. I love my golf shoes, but they are pretty different from what you've posted

I would channel a rock and roll Indiana jones with femme touches.

The fryes and the docs fit right in. I can vouch for fryes as comfy. I wear tube socks with thick bottoms (costco 6 pack) and I'm good all day. These are great commuters too.

I believe the docs have good fabrication initially for men who worked in English factories. If I can, I would source one of those (steel toe included in case you drop pottery!). Not sure if the fashiony ones are made to the same specs.

Ps my auto correct changes fryes to fryers!

Elly, your job sounds amazing and I love your style. I am a big fan of Frye's and Doc Martens. I have owned both and they are very comfortable. I have very difficult feet and my Frye's are amazing. The Frye's seem to be more workable for your wardrobe. Both would work but I am leaning towards the Frye's.

I also really like a Chelsea boot for covering both a pant and skirt need - and I guess the closest would be the red boots in the first pic, although they are a bit turned up at the toe for a true Chelsea, but you know what I mean:)

Wow Elly, what a fascinating job you have! Well, I still think a pair of riding boots or moto boots can work with what you are talking about here - especially making the transition from jeans/work wear to a skirt. I use my quite often for that task.

Anyways - thanks for filling me in, and hope you find what you are looking for!

Thanks Gracie-- I own a pair of the Lissies too! I bought mine last December and have been happy with them. Haven't tried them with anything but a wide-hem pant though. Don't know how they would look with black tights and a skirt.

I can vouch for the Miz Mooz Lissies, I've owned a pair for over a year and not only do the look cool, they are super comfortable. They are really easy to put on and take off and pretty flexible. I wear mine with jeans and slacks, not with dresses or skirts/shorts.

Sorry, Lisa! I don't often post WIWs, but most of our long-time forum members know my style and silly me, I forgot to include info. I work in a museum behind the scenes with collections' -- I stand a lot, the workspace is cold, and good traction and stability are important in footwear. The environment is pretty casual and because I often get dirty at work I wear jeans or other durable, washable twill or ponte type pants 90% of the time. I'm a dark autumn (pale olive skin, dark brown hair, brown eyes) and wear a lot of navy, black, and charcoal grey, plus olive and deep greens and reds and oranges. My style is 30% borrowed-from-the-boys in a James Dean sort of way, 30% simple casual classics, 20% world traveler (my specialty is southwestern prehistoric ceramics), 10% grungy rock star, and 10% high end art gallery style. A typical outfit for me is a pair of bootcut jeans with a navy long sleeve tee layered under a black banded collar shirt topped with my olive army jacket, a mens' watch, and some earrings I picked up in Santa Fe. For an opening I'd wear my oxfords with black tights and my black pencil, a drapey turtleneck blouse, and asymetric leather jacket.

I think the menswear lean comes through in the shoe choices, at least to an extent, along with my colors, and at least a hint of the "american classics". I have a hard time with the rocker and exotic sides to my style since because I don't do boho and work doesn't often mesh with the rock aesthetic, so I keep it a bit tame.

I'd love to contribute, but without knowing anything about your look, I really can't I see a real variety of looks in the pictures you have posted above - so not even sure what you are going for here. With jeans and possibly a skirt, I always pick a riding boot. You can tuck jeans in (slim or skinnies) and they are of course a natural with any kind of skirt. They are definitely a core of my shoe/boot wardrobe regardless of current trends etc.

Thanks for chiming in, Suz. I always appreciate your advice. I know most tall boots should look fine under my bootcuts, and I am assuming that the slim jeans could go inside the Fryes. However, IDK if BFs would work with them. I'm also concerned that maybe none of the footwear works with slacks or with a possible skirt match up and that all options but my red boots might look sorta "boring" under bootcuts and trousers. Plus, I'm kinda at a loss for what would make a good 3rd boot or shoe style.

I totally agree that it is all about comfort. I owned a pair of classic Fryes until my feet changed sizes, and I've had a pair of the Campus on, which I will try again for comfort but think I can fit my orthotics in. Of course, if that isn't working for me feet I will be on the lookout for another style. The docs with the lining would be super warm in my arctic office and get rave comfort reviews-- but once again, we'll see.

Both of those look like great options, Elly. A tall boot would be a great change. And you can't really go wrong with a classic Docs lace up.

For me, the comfort test would be key, really. You can't know till you try them on.

One of my fashion goals for 2014 was to try new things and break out of a rut, including new silhouettes (above-the-knee shorts, straight leg/skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans). So far so good there!

However, as I take the tags off off my first pair of slim jeans my first thought is how is this going to impact my footwear choices for the upcoming season?

I have gear shoes (including winter snow boots that can be used as commuter shoes in the worst weather) covered. I also am carrying over a pair of dark red water resistant sneakers from last season, a pair of olive green Klogs, and a pair of dark red short boots. I also have a pair of black and white heeled oxfords that I wear as dress shoes, but aren't cushy enough for everyday.
http://www.infinityshoes.com/M.....-3951.html
http://www.amazon.com/Salomon-.....B00AK8SD7O
http://www.amazon.com/Klogs-Wo.....op?ie=UTF8

The Klogs are the oldest and still look fine but are up to be retired soon.

I mostly wear jeans and anticipate that this year I will have two pair of bootcuts, two pair of slim or skinny pants, and a pair of BF jeans. I also have two pair of trousers (in different weights) that I need to occasionally wear with winter boots but aren't everyday clothes. That also goes for my black ponte pencil skirt. I've also considered adding a dress for winter.

I am planning on adding 2-3 pairs of shoes/boots. However, with so many different silhouettes to cover I'm confused by exactly what to add. I wear both cognac leather and black leather.

In my earliest searching, these two pair appeal the most:
http://www.zappos.com/frye-cam.....ims_p_ab_1

http://www.zappos.com/dr-marte.....-cartegena

However, I'm wondering if those pair (along with my existing 2-3) cover enough bases?

What would you ladies recommend? Something different? What am I missing?

Thanks so much for your time and expertise : )

P.S. I've put pictures of all the shoes in my finds attached to the post, my oxfords are black not brown, though (several seasons old, couldn't find the exact color).
