Yeah, my feet are very wide so pointy toes tend to squash my forefoot. I will continue saving my pennies for the perfect pair of shoes.

I hear you. They were an absolute indulgence. Do your feet hurt when you wear pointy toes?

They're gorgeous, but it's no wonder I never saw them on Zappos--I had things filtered by price! I can't do pointy toes anyway so I guess it's no loss.

I actually made a mistake. I meant to say “slither wedge knee high boots”. Here they are. They are extremely comfortable, weatherproof and 10 hour walking shoes. I do a lot of running around in these boots in the rain. They also fit my very shapeless calf. They cost a pretty penny but they have been worth every cent. I wear them with skirts and dresses or under my jeans (not tucked). They are brilliant.

Angie, do you have any examples of slither wedge ankle boots? That sounds like it's right up my alley but I'm not sure how to go about searching for them.

:) I did leave a disclaimer there Angie, that they would not last 8 hours, but as long as the toes and heel are not at a steep angle I can manage those kind of heels..

I should qualify my gasp. If you can sightsee around a city in shoes like that Mirah, this is a skill that you can put on your resume. Those straps would start digging into my skin after one hour and platforms don't bend when you walk. I need to stick to Converse, ballet flats, slither wedged ankle boots or flat riding boots. Those are my run around a city for 8 hours or more shoes.

I like to have the height like you so I usually opt for a nice comfortable pair of platforms for city walking..of course it takes a little getting used to and you need to find a pair which will give nice arch support .. but of course they wont last you 8 hours of walking :)

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7403005/c/21205.html

I havent tried these yet but just to show you an example

I find Naturalizer shoes to be comfortable for walking. I own a few pair with 2-3 inch heels and can comfortably walk in them for quite some time. Of course, a cute pair of colorful track sneakers (not the kind you wear to the gym, but the stylish ones) are a must have, but won't give you the height you're looking for. San Fransico is so hilly, that walking in heels is going to be difficult, no matter how comfortable those shoes are. Boston and NY are messy in the winters, so boots are your best bet from Nov/Dec thru Mar/Apr. Avoid anything w/out arch support, and anything too open since city streets and pubic transportation can be icky.

I am the most anti-heel person you'll ever meet, but I have had some luck with La Canadienne. The boots I got aren't the most stylish in the world and the heel is only 1.75", but I needed boots to wear under my jeans because I was getting tired of wearing ultra skinny jeans just so I could tuck them into boots.

Some of LC's other styles are better, but they are pretty expensive. Clarks, Sofft, and Oh! are all also brands that come to mind. So far I haven't had any luck finding heels that work for city life, but many women manage somehow anyway, so I'm probably not in the majority.

What cute, stylish and most importantly comfortable shoes should I wear that will not hurt my feet as I walk around a big city like Boston, New York or San Francisco. I'm 5"2 and would also like a little "height" in the shoes. Thank you.
