I have high hopes for the Steve maddens.
Gosh I hope you can break in your cole haans.
I like the EF in black, and the first pink ones (second batch) and the brown ones seem like they would work with a lot of your clothes.

I agree that you should get another pair of flat forms or oxfords or some sort of substantial flat as you seem to be very happy with your halogens.

Thanks Suz and Sharan for commiserating. I'm definitely not giving up on these yet! I'm going to try a few more days of wearing and hope to get past the blister phase. One big issue is that we have entered mud season and it's a real mess outside, so for the next couple of weeks I will probably live in my Blundstones. I'll tackle the breaking in when the world has dried out a bit.

Angie, thanks for the recommendations. I'm really trying to decide which direction I want to take -- for example, the Via Spiga refined Dinah vs the Freebird Sly. I'm really unsure right now. My plan is to sit on this decision for a little while until I feel more directed. I'm inclined to think the Dinah is the better direction (if not the perfect shoe), and I do still like the Eileen Fisher (in black). I'm just going to think a while before I take on round 2. (And I love the Louise et Cie for dressy!)

YES. Shoes are hard. Welcome to my world. Rotten luck, Viv. But you'll get there eventually. You just have to keep on looking and trying.

I'm worried about the blisters on the backs of your feet from the oxfords - although that CAN improve.

Not sure if you like any of these - but I know they are comfy or VERY comfy. You have to get the size and width right. And there are colour options too.

Vivian, thanks for these reviews. Sorry so many didn't work out for you. It's the nature of online shoe-shopping, though. I've actually been churning through my share of black booties, too, trying and returning, trying and returning. . . .
Vivian and Suz, your stories of blisters with "comfort" shoes are somewhat heartening to me today, in the misery-loves-company way. I wore my new Ecco sneakers to work and ended up with near-blisters from rubbing on my heels. I was able to put on some band-aids soon enough to prevent actual blisters, and, after also loosening the laces and leaving the top two eyelets unlaced on the high-tops, my feet were feeling much better. I am so spoiled, as I rarely have to really break in shoes this way.

It's frustrating to shop online, isn't it. I mean, it's great to have so many options...except when none of them works out! These are all great looking shoes and I am sure you will find "yours" eventually.

Re the blisters -- get that body glide stuff, and also, there are blister preventer bandaids that I find useful. I need this type of thing for almost every closed-back shoe I own due to my heel shape, and fortunately, almost all of them break in beautifully. I remember a pair of Ecco walking shoes (bought purposely for a trip) that absolutely tore my heels apart on their first wear, and I was so worried. Luckily, they turned into fabulous travel shoes after two wears (and some prophylactic blister bandage action.)

I don't have a Geox store near me but I will be near one in the next month or so. Just took a quick look and definitely want to stop in. Some nice things there!

And yes, moleskin.

Well , I can tell you that the Steve Maddens are super comfy . Now that o think about it , I have good luck with that brand . I don't have perfect feet by any stretch - a wonky left foot - and they are exactly the right height and width . I bought my usual size ( 8). Give the Coles some time - and once your blistered heel is healed , I'm sure they'll be fine . Just stick some mole skin back there . And too bad about the AT's . I wanted those to work .

Well, the search for work shoes goes on. Shoes are HARD!!!

I tried all the ones below. Here's the upshot.

Intentionally Blank, Franz Gold: Beautifully made and the perfect height. I loved how these looked and I really tried to make these work for me. The gold was shimmery more than shiny, and they felt like a cool sort of nude. I was very taken with them, but they were close fitting in a very weird and specific way: the toe was a bit cramped vertically speaking. I have low volume feet and there just wasn't enough space for my toes to wiggle up and down (although the shoe fit perfectly lengthwise). Does this make sense to you? Sent back.

Intentionally Blank, Cola Red: Beautifully made and so soft, but I don't like how they looked on the feet (extremely high foot coverage - not just the vamp but the entire foot opening). Plus, the 9 was unusually squeezy (I am an 8.5). Sent back.

Ann Taylor Camel Eliza Suede: Very pretty but too high. I believe they say 2.5 but they feel taller. Sent back.

Cole Haan Dove Grey Oxford: I bought these and will definitely wear them as travel shoes at the very least, provided they become more comfortable. They rub quite a bit at the heel for now (to the point of painful blisters). I hate breaking shoes in. Kept but worried.

Zara, Flatform Bluchers: Love the look of these, but I am expecting a short life because inexpensive ($50), not leather, and trendy. I am an 8.5, the size 9 was really big, so I have a size 8 on order. Reordered and hopeful.

Steve Madden Admire Sandal, blue: Ordered on a whim based on Lisap's review. Have no idea how/if these will fit into my needs. Ordered impulsively. :(

Knowing how I have lived with a very limited palette of work shoes in the past, I am sure I will be fine if I end up adding only the Zara bluchers (I also have my blue wedge heels and my black loafers). That's 3 pairs of different and comfortable shoes. And I can just wait until the right 4th pair comes along.
