I love the Fryes, and while not weatherproof if you get the sole winterized (because it's leather) it will be pretty durable. Otherwise I vote #4.

Thank you for the helpful comments, Glory, Suz, sarah, deb, san, Sylvie, Rae, Susie Scarlet and christy! Right now I’m leaning toward the Frye oxford and the Doc pictured in #4. I really like 2 and 3 but I’m worried they are going to look too masculine and “heavy” when I wear the BF or straight leg jeans. I really like the cheetah print but keeping the sole and heel clean on the sides is going to drive me batty. I probably wouldn’t wear them because I would be afraid they would get dirty (ask me how I know:P)
@Glory: Thanks for confirming the problem of the pink soles!
@Suz: Lol about the “delicate” and the scientific research.
@san: Thanks for the heads up about the breaking in process.
@Rae: Thanks! You bring up a great point about the two tone coloring working like leopard. That’s my hesitation with 2--perhaps too “heavy” in color.

ETA: Thanks, Andrea! I'm surprised coming from a Doc fan like you!

Fryes! I love Docs but for this style shoe, the Fryes are just so much nicer.

I like 1 the best, but I am really anti-clunky, so that's a factor with me.

I like both the Fryes and the Docs. The posy color in #4 is calling out to me loudly - I love the way the two-tone coloring will be able to bookend your hair as well as lighter colors up top like leopard.

I am pro-Fryes. I have had good experiences with my pair - sturdy, beautiful, etc. I think the Docs will feel like big clunky boats on your feet.

I have #1 and they are pretty hard to break in because they are hard leather. Well at least mine are. My advice would be to order your regular size. I sized down a half size and regret it because with leather that doesn't give you need the extra room. I'm not saying that they are aweful, they are just made of harder leather like men's dress shoes.

Try the Fryes and the Docs. Love the idea of animal print but those ones look too flat to my poisoned eye that can't comfortably wear completely flat shoes! The Posy's are a bit more like the Fryes in appearance. The truth will be in the telling with the Docs. They would not look too clunky on everyone, but might on you with your delicate legs. Tell your husband you are conducting important scientific research and need to check all options!

I can sympathize with the returns - my trunk has a number of shoes going back. My top choice is number 1 - I just love them. Then 3, Then 4. I tried 5 on in winners this week and you are right that the pink gets dirty and is hard to clean. The ones I tried on had that issue. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

This is my last post until I do a K/R on the actual shoes, I promise! Help me narrow down the field so DH doesn't have a heart attack when he sees the Zappos bill! Here are the options and some initial thoughts:
1. Frye: Streamlined, good heel height, not really weather resistant.
2,3,4. Dr. Marten Amory (black, cherry) and Posy: More streamlined aesthetic than the standard styled oxford, good heel height, weather resistant.
5.) DV Mini: Fun print. Lower heel but I read reviews that said the pink sole/heel gets dirty.

Do you have a preference in terms of style or color? Do you think these more refined Docs look too clunky? Too masculine? Thoughts about versatility overall?

Thanks again!
