Thanks for the article, Mochi. He does seem to have a habit of wanting to be controversial in the past few years. I side with the Search and Rescue team on that one. Fluevog has no right to cash in on other's experiences, despite how "cool" it would be for one of his products. My belief is that someone does not have to share my or my culture's values, but they should show respect as I would do so for them.
That said, I often like many of his shoes, but I haven't been buying them in the past few years. Only have 1 pair of Fluevogs right now.

Neither can I. I just wiki'd (though I'm senile and can forget things I looked up two minutes before...) I think it was a place in Yugoslavia where a group of children saw the Virgin Mary or some type of religious vision.

rae, I did enter the contest. Hey, at least it didn't cost anything, unlike a lotto ticket.

I keep thinking about the shoes--buy/don't buy, but also in general about how I/we all justify purchasing decisions. It's very conflicted and interesting, as you would imagine. Hopefully I'll have some time to put my thoughts down later this weekend.

rosee, I understand that there was some complaint about the name of another Fluevog shoe: http://www.vancouversun.com/ne.....story.html

His shoes often seem to be named after colorful characters from the past, such as opera singers, adventurous and unconventional women, etc. Yes, I agree that it's a marketing gimmick and there's a risk of people feeling their culture's been appropriated for that.

I just found it funny how they have one family of shoes, "Tokyo", with subsets like Nagoya. The Tokyo Nagoya is like saying the New York Chicago. Oh well.

Fluevogs are well made, quality shoes and I have owned several pairs in the past. The price has been the only issue for me at times.

Really liking both pairs, especially the Hollie. Interestingly, I got a very similar pair from Naturalizer (yes, them) several years back in bordeaux with a 2.5" heel. I have been thinking of redyeing them black (they are a bit worn), now maybe I will dye them olive!

I'm not sure how I feel about the name "Medugorje" for a shoe -- that place has a special significance in my culture and I don't believe that John Fluevog actually respects that and is just using it for marketing purposes. That's all I'll say about that.

OK, gotta chime in.

Every year Fluevog has a sample sale in May in downtown Vancouver. Last year I braved the crowds and came home with a pair of toeless boots from that shoe family (Miracles). I thought 3" would be too high for regular wear, but I got them for a third of the regular price, and they fit me like a glove, so I thought I'd take the risk.

Well. To my surprise, they got LOTS of wear. I'm not normally a high heel gal, but I wore those boots all over the place. They are darn comfy. I wore them with skirts, I wore them with skinnies, I even wore them with bootcuts. So I have to second what Una says, about Fluevog heels being more walkable than many other heels of a similar height. Part of it might be the fact that the Miracle heel is nice and chunky, too.

So anyway, Mochi, I agree that the Miracle Hollie is super cute (I tried it on too!) and the olive leather is beautiful. And like my Miracle booties, there would not be a problem with them slipping off your feet. I bet they'd be comfortable. I'm focusing on the plain olive pump simply because I was in the market for a shoe with no straps. I already have several pairs of maryjane heels, but sometimes you need a pair without straps.

And yes, I'd say that once you consider buying any shoe that is priced upwards of $200, you're already an addict.

Fluevogs are easier to wear in a heel than other shoes, IMHO, because they are so stable and well made. They are expensive but worth it if they are in your price range. If not, they are still drool-worthy!

I like, but they seem high!! How did they feel on you? Fluevog's has so many gorgeous flatter shoes, I'd probably look for a pair of those. I loved the oxfords I tried on in NYC, just couldn't afford the mortgage payments on them.

Those are fabulous! I've drooled over mine in my local so much that I keep thinking they're going to have to discount them due to water damage. If you need enabling, I'm your girl. Olive is the best neutral because it is so unexpected. The shoes are beautiful and just perfectly different enough to make them special. 'Vogs are very well made. The straps add just the right amount of sass. Take them over the top with fishnets or diamond pattern tights, or keep them flirty and intriguing by wearing them with bare feet. They are perfect! Anything else I can get you for your enable table?

I know what you're saying...I'm sort of thinking that a shoe like that would be broadening my style horizons, having me go off into looks and outfits I'm not already doing. But who knows. Yep, they are expensive. Also really pretty, comfortable and well-made. I kept thinking "gateway drug" while I was in the store (or maybe it was Docs that were the gateway drug...someone here used that term. Probably Fluevogs are already a serious drug habit.)

And Allie, the saleswoman, told me I had pretty, narrow-to-normal width feet. I have no idea what she's talking about--I have always had widish duck feet. I think the salespeople are very well trained, LOL.

Cute! I like fluevog shoes but have a hard time getting past the price tag. It seems like a pair of pumps shouldn't cost that much. I just can't get past how many times I would have to wear them to get the CPW down to the same range of the majority of my other shoes.

Look at this li'l beauty in olive:

http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....ourID=3240

I saw it and was persuaded to try it on today when I went into the Boston Fluevog store thinking I would be trying on elisabeth's coveted olive pumps from her post yesterday:

http://www.fluevog.com/code/?w.....ourID=3242

My store didn't have these latter shoes, and actually the Hollies would be better for me in a way, the straps giving me some stability (because I am not great with heels). They were a wee bit high, but supposedly they're 3", which is doable for me, and I think I could get used to them as long as I used them as special-occasion shoes. I also really like the detailing...still like the pumps, but those Hollies were very tempting indeed, though I did walk away for now.

I'm not asking for enabling. The shoes are very cute, and being Vogs, they're expensive too. I'm not even sure why I'm writing this post apart from expressing delight in something pretty I discovered. However, I will try and lay down some thoughts on self-enabling later when I have some time.
