I should have worn them around for a bit but the ankle issue was a deal killer. I have another pair of shoes that do this and I use heel liners to help with this.

Interesting, I found the toe box soft within a couple of hours of wear, but the edges around the ankle were too stiff/abrasive. Sorry for the false alarm.

GF, I ordered these and had the same problem. Plus the toebox is a bit stiff and looks like it won't soften.

Update: These didn't make it past day one.

I think they might work on other people, but my ankles are quite low to the ground, which means the leathers cut it. I was in pain within ten minutes of actually wearing this, and had irritation from the back of the shoe and from the buckle. Sizing up might help.

Thought I would add my two cents on Birkenstock boots. I purchased the Farmington and was very happy with it all last winter. Not super stylish but not horrible either and works well for long distance walking with my custom orthotics. This year I bought the Birkenstock Collins and was not as happy with them...my orthotic fit but they just didn't feel as good as the Farmington did last winter (I hope my foot issues have not become worse.) will see how the Farmington does this winter.

Elpgal, I ordered the Benington and Stirling. The former fit large, and was nicely roomy. I just couldn't get over the aesthetic hurdle, though--they hit me at an awkward ankle that makes my short calves look even stumpier. Back they went. The Stirling fit on the smaller side, and a bit too small in length for my liking. I should've ordered a size larger, but I became really fatigued with ordering/waiting/returning. In terms of insoles, the ones in the Stirling felt more defined and seemed to offer more support than the Benington.

Thanks for the recommendation - I ordered them. I wonder if they are a Footprints footbed which is slightly sleeker than Birki/Birkenstock.

GF: have you tried their boots?

I'm really needing more comfort options, too, including shoes I'd be willing to take as one of limited travel capsule options where I need to be sure I can wear all day, so thanks!

These are cute. I just bought some Finn Comfort shoes. I had some sandals for the summer and I could walk without pain. My feet have an assortment of issues.

I have a toe arthritis and stiffness problem that is getting worse. My consignment store was so happy to get my hardly-worn Stuart Weitzman pointy toe loafers and some other lovelies to which I was quite sorry to say goodbye.

I recently bought these M. Gemi booties, in a size up from normal, and am having some happy foot feelings. Perhaps your feet are too far along for them but just in case. <http://mgemi.com/preshop-editi...../color/601>

For the problem-feet folk condemned to orthopedic-looking shoes, I recommend that you try the Birkenstock Tickel. The leather is super soft, and the comes with the traditional Birkenstock insole. However, unlike the clogs, the rubber sole is quite flexible and much thinner, giving you more ground feel. The width isn't as wide as the traditional Birkenstocks, but wide enough to accommodate my toe spacers and bunions. Even though it doesn't look stellar with skirts (no orthopedic shoes do), its minimalist profile makes it work. I'll be wearing these with denim and possibly skirts.
