Ooh nice! I actually store my boots in the under-stairs cupboard away from my main shoes which are in my clothes closet.

We installed "custom" built-in shoe racks using those Rubbermaid wire shelving systems they sell at Home Depot. We had them cut the shelves to exactly the width of the wall so no space would be wasted, and you can mount them at any height on the wall. I measured using my boots. ;) So there is space on the floor below the lowest shelf for my tall boots (and they also obviously fit on the top shelf), and one of the middle shelves is tall enough for my mid-calf boots.

It's not enough for ALL my shoes though. I also have a small shoe rack in a closet for out-of-season pairs, and I keep my dress shoes (I only have 4 pairs) in boxes in a different closet. I'm jealous that you can put all of your shoes in one place!

Thanks, everyone. Organization makes me happy so I'm thrilled to have them contained in an appropriate 'container.' Staysfit, I have a couple of those hanging boot stretchers that I used in my old closet, but I actually have less floor to ceiling hanging space in the new closet so I think they might be too bulky. Also, they tend to fall out, in my experience. I'll wait until it's properly fall and my sandals are out of the way - maybe I can fit the booties on the top shelf...

That looks great! I love how you can see all of them so clearly - I really think that is the goal, if possible.

I keep boots lined up on the floor and booties on shelves. We have a lowish end but quite serviceable closet system - Martha Stewart from Home Depot -- and being able to display and see my booties is one of my favorite aspects of it.

I like that shoe rack. My shoes are in under the bed storage containers. It's a nuisance but it saves closet space. I have a large boot collection and they sit on the floor. I saw some hangers at Bed, Bath and Beyond that you could put into boots and then hang them on a closet rod. They were costly, and for the number of boots I have I decided against them.

Very nice! I don't know what people do with boots. I just keep mine on the floor—but I have only four pair, and one of those I will probably get rid of this year. If a person has quite a few pairs of boots, I don't know, maybe you'd have to get another rack that had more space between the levels?

I'm jealous of the rack and that you have a closet big enough to hold it. 30 pairs of shoes! Impressive.

Several of you had great suggestions on shoe storage for my new closet. I finally found something in the right size and ordered it (groupon deal, actually). I just assembled it and I think it's going to work out well. It's not high end but hopefully it'll last for a while. My flats and actually my heels fit, but not my boots. Gonna have to cogitate on what to do with them, but it's a start.
