This is what happens to me when I travel for work. I treat the travel reimbursements as black budget items instead of putting back what I spent already. Now I have a name for it. Thank you for the laugh.

Oh that is hiLARious! I think I'm guilty of a version of this....it's possible to do a budget sleight of hand during returns...I do the budgeting and it gets really confusing. If I keep track in my checkbook ledger and then I have a return for something I've used the debit card for and they ask me if I want cash back.....well, why not? Heh-heh. I'm only fooling myself!

This is very funny !!!!! I think that I also like the concept ( self-delusion ) of a $300 pair of shoes is really $150 per foot and when one breaks it down to a per-step basis, shoes are darn cheap.

LOL. So if I understand it correctly, you order something that you can not afford it, than return it and then suddenly you have this amount in the budget to spend on something else?? Ha ha..

Lol. Shoe math, a useful derivative of Girl Math. If Non-Euclidian Geometry makes sense, then so does this! >:^)

On another online community I frequent, one person came up with the concept of shoe math. It goes like this.

"I saw this awesome pair of shoes for $358. They were so cute, I bought them but then I changed my mind and returned them." OR "I managed not to buy them." Along those lines. This translates into:

"I didn't spend the $358. That means I'm now in the black for $358, which I'm now entitled to spend."

And it can be applied toward anything. Use Shoe Math for vacation spending, restaurants, any time where you want to justify spending money that you avoided spending on something else.

Viva Shoe Math!

(Disclaimer: I'm not advocating this)
