IMO, the shoes are all nice, but nothing to write home about. It sounds like they're not making you happy. I would just keep a few pairs—whatever is most versatile, perhaps the Dr Scholls, a pair of flats, and a pair of heels—and sell or donate the rest. As for the few pairs that you would keep in this scenario, if you think you would wear them more if they were more exciting, I would start looking for replacement pairs.

It's your call as to whether you really feel fab in any of them, but ones that seem workable to me are the weejun loafers--say with rolled jeans; the Pappagallo's interest me because of the oval toe, which is comfortable to me and a bit of a step up from snub-nosed flat--e.g, this silhouette looks good to me, but may not on every foot; the nude pumps would be keepers if I needed them to complete a dress outfit and did not have a replacement ( placeholder shoes).
So to me, toss if you know you're not going to wear; if you feel they're weighing you down so you are not likely to upgrade them. Use comfort and how likely to be replaceable as reasons to keep if you have outfits they currently work with.

I'd let them all go too. But I might buy a new pair of weejuns... haha. But maybe not. I got some brainstorm the other day involving weejuns and now have forgotten my own brilliance... hahaha.

Zibbets, if you wear a 10 you can have the Pappagallos! They are absolutely flat and I think I only wore them once or twice. The Nickels make me feel a bit like a school marm.

Magpie, I think the only ones I've worn in the last 6 months were the penny loafers. The just in case shoes, the Naturalizers, I think I last wore several years ago, to a wedding, or something like that.

Laura, I was thinking of keeping the penny loafers for that very reason. The comfort is ok.

Ladywone, it's funny, I bought the Dr Scholls for a trip but then have never worn them, not even once.

I would hang onto the middle ones in the first two pics (Nickels, Pappagallo- my heart skipped a beat when I saw that brand name) and probably the black ballet flats in pic #3.

Have you actually worn any of these recently (say, the past 6 months) in one of those "just in case" situations? If not, it's time to say goodbye.

(The Naturalizers *might* be worth keeping around because the toe looks current, but for the rest, you probably have something that you actually wear and that's filling that niche in your shoe wardrobe.)

I'd be tempted to keep the Bass loafers because that's a classic style not to mention that penny loafers are trendy right now - assuming they fit well and you like them. And I agree with ladywone about the dr scholls, again assuming they are comfy - the stitching is cute and they look like great bum around the house, run errands kind of shoes. Everything else is a little long in the tooth and if you're not wearing or loving them, out they go!

I would let all but one go and that would be the one in pic 4 Dr. Scholl - black suede. I would keep those for around the house or in the car for when my feet hurt after a long day. The rest I would donate.

I used to really love the sandals, but I'm afraid they are passé.

Carter, it's funny it's raining today! It never rains here (I live in a desert).

I'm doing the shoe purge too! I do keep a couple pair of old shoes for specific purposes. In my car I have an old pair of black flats for walking in muddy construction sites and an old pair of sneakers for walking undeveloped lots. I also always keep a pair or two of tired but still somewhat fashionable shoes in my closet for days when I have to show homes in the rain. Everything else has to go. Maybe the Nickels in picture 1 could be your rainy day shoes?

I don't think any of these make me particularly happy. I don 't feel anything about them. The "just in case" shoes were the Naturalizer pumps, in case I had to dress up. I also have two or three pairs of dressy black shoes that I wear to holiday parties. Most of these pictured I wore when I worked, except for the sandals.

Hi JAileen,

FWIW I don't keep any shoes for "just in case", excepting gear (runners, rubber boots, hikers). I only keep shoes that I love and love to wear.

Here's my litmus test: when's the last time you wore any of these and were so happy to look down and see your feet in them?
