I like the idea of trying to bookend your hair color with your boots. You can gradually add other colors to your shoe wardrobe as you branch out from the browns and blacks that went with the pants you were wearing most. Boots are a pretty big purchase, and I think you're right to look forward with them--to the wardrobe you're transitioning to--rather than to the past, and the clothes you are moving away from. In the same vein, I'd look shades of brown or taupe that highlight the colors you most want to bring out in your hair--not trying to match so much as going for complementary tones that will make your hair look vibrant.

I think that they make a statement without being an "in your face" shoe. Dark brown is a great color if you wear mostly a darker color palette. Some guys can pull off dark brown really well but don't get purple if your not totally comfortable with it.

Jenava, those are awesome boots! I especially like the color of the booties.

Diana, I do have a pair of dark red pumps. I don't know if I am brave enough for red boots.

Every girl needs a pair of red shoes! Go for a deep wine red if you want it to be more understated.

Otherwise, I think cognac is a great and really versatile color for shoes. It goes with pretty much everything and complements all hair colors.

I do have loads of black shoes (but no dark brown) but I have very dark hair, which makes it easy..

I do red-rust boots with everything. I rarely wear black or brown footwear.

I prefer black shoes when I've got something else black in the outfit, I admit. But I don't think it's a rule.

I'm thinking a BEIGE pair will look fantastic to bookend your hair AND will go really well with both black AND brown pants (score!).

Something like this, what do you think?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/fr.....ot/3058768
or this bootie is fab:

Shoe color is confusing to me. My really exciting routine has been black shoes with black pants, and brown shoes with brown pants.

I wear a lot of jeans now, because the dress code changed at work. With the help of Loreal, my hair is dark blond/light brown. I don't anticipate that changing any time soon. I am thinking that the only time I should wear black shoes is when I have a black top or jacket on, which is not very often. Is that right?

I'm hoping to buy a pair of boots soon, and am looking for light brown, to bookend my hair. Until I have more variety in my shoe wardrobe, will that be the best choice for boots?
