I had just this week pondered the same transition. The rain also makes it challenging for me in warmer weather.
I just received these cream vionics today so am having fun styling them. I also included a photo of a workhorse peep toe bootie that worked well with crops and skirts. I would get compliments when I wore them.
In additionI am looking at a Rocket dog high top that zips...I like that combination.
I have always admired the Brand X huaraches especially the closed toe version. They have many styles in a variety of colors.
Will be interested in what others do for this style challenge . thank you!

Oh, just had another thought. There are some modern looking espadrilles now, with flatforms. Would the fabric be too constricting? If not, that might broaden your options.

Lana, YES. Perforated oxfords and boots, or cut-out booties are another way to go.

Our early Springs are cold, so I wear these a lot:

Another option is to go opposite from cropped type pants and have some outfits built around very long flowy breezy pants - I realize feet will still show when sit down, cross legs, but still
might allow some different footwear styles so you have more options when looking.
I sometimes luck into a good shoe ( under my newer comfort & fit requirements) so I often decide to build clothing around that. I no longer can go out and find a specific “ just the right shoe “ for outfits. The one thing I try to stick with is color family , so that the shoes won’t drive me away from overall palette that I need for some degree of wardrobe cohesion.

That's a bummer, I so look forward to wearing sandals in the summer! I agree, you can wear booties, especially in a lighter color, if your feet don't get too hot. Peep toes would be fun if you can find them. I just googled boots in summer and there are all kinds of inspirational pics.

Angie! Another person who doesn’t really wear sandals. I’m shocked LOL. Thanks for validating my preferences. I did find these, which are a sneaker/bootie hybrid but have perforations. I’ll see how I do with my combat boots too.

Of course you can boots in Summer! It's a look. Combat, cowboy, shooties, light boots - all good.

I second Jonesy's suggestion for peep-toe boots or cage sandals.

Jaime's suggestion for fisherman sandals is great too!

YES to wedge sneakers and hi-tops!

I just got these caged white sandals and hope to enjoy them. I have VERY FUSSY feet and walk everywhere - doggies it tow too. I need a narrow width is sandals. These fit the bill so far.

When it's cool in Seattle, in the warm and hot months, I wear my custom-made pink leather hi-tops, or my pink Frye boots. As for the rest, I am in loafers or sneakers in the Summer. A LOT of ECCO sneakers. I do well in the heat. Don't get hot feet. I have one pair of sandals.

Jaime and Jonesy, thank you, I love those first boots maybe perforated or more open in some way would be better for the heat.I’ll keep looking.

Joy, I have a couple of d’orsays but I never wear them because of the pointed toe. Maybe I’ll play with them in the summer.

Rachylou, I think you are right, perforated would be the perfect option, no straps to accentuate swelling. I hadn’t considered slides! Will check that out.

Bijou, those star boots are so fab! Somehow they remind me of David Bowie, which makes me happy. White perforated would be perfect for me. I will look for something similar.

Zaeobi, you understand then if you have swelling too. It’s not just covering them for looks, the closed shoe actually helps control the swelling a bit more than sandals. Thank you.

Brooklyn, these are what I really want to wear! They fit my style and solve all the problems. I’m sure someone has made a perforated combat boot so I’ll keep looking. I also like that I could do anything in them like go to lunch and then for a walk on a trail. Versatile is good.

I am in Australia, like Bijou, and I wear boots in Summer. I wear black or brown combat boots with midi or midaxi skirts. A lighter colour can make them look more summery, if that’s your concern. They are hotter to wear than sandals. More like sneakers. But good for walking and wet weather.

I think all of these would work - if you wish to hide the toe seam of your socks, you could also go for a D'orsay flat (open sides).

Traditional D'orsay styles might not fit your foot (or style), but perhaps a casual slip-on version (like this one) would? I own these ones (by FitFlop) & find them comfy for my high instep (they swell in summer), slightly wide forefoot but narrow heel

Lana, I wear boots and sneakers in summer as well as my sandals and Birks. Living in Western Australia, it gets hot. The boots I wear over summer are my star boots (white and pink - which I think could work for your style, because they are a bit distressed), white perforated boots, platform sneakers and a comfy platform black sandal. I had gold open toed boots/sandals that were fabulous, alas after 3 years of regular wear they were worn out and I have yet to find a replacement.

We have cool summers due to high altitude so booties are common in summer as are cowboy boots. I am not allowed heels or sandals for medical reasons, but like perforated and fabric footwear. I have canvas espadrilles and perforated leather loafers and sneakers. Good luck. Your summer shoes are out there. Try jelly shoes and knit slip-ons.D ‘ Orsay flats with a back and closed front but open sides are another idea.

I had a pair of open-toed gray booties that I wore a ton in the summer, until they finally wore out. I think booties could work for you, as long as they were natural material (so, breathable) and ideally were perforated, loosely woven, that sort of thing, so you could get some air circulation. This is unless you're typically in A/C in the summer, in which case any sort of bootie would be fine! I like the options you've shown.

I was also thinking of fisherman styles but am not sure how they work with the Glamour aspect of your style. Really the best would be trying on styles when your foot is swollen. I once had a pair of open toe wedge booties that I wore to the ground in the summer - not sure they are trending/available now, but they did work for me in the heat.

I am always looking for toe coverage, and failing that, at least a feeling of being held in by the shoe. I saw some likely candidates at Sofia’s in Carrboro recently and will be going back to try some. Flexus, Pikolino, and several other brands that might meet you part way! The website was not too helpful. Did you take a look at Angie’s post on fisherman sandals?

I like your approach to dealing with lymphedema, find a great shoe that works and just get on with it. Love your choices and I think they will all suit your style. Small caveat with gladiator style, I wonder if your foot is swelling whether the cage structure would aggravate it?

I don’t wear booties in the summer, but I do like a tstrap sandal with good arch support. I’ve been browsing Birkenstocks and thought the ones below might suit your style.

I love Spring weather but always dread the change to sandals because I have mild lymphedema causing swelling in my right leg. As a result I am much more comfortable with high tops, booties or boots. Unfortunately the swelling is worse in the summer here in hot North Carolina. So I need to wear compression socks sometimes.

I have a few questions:

1. Do any of you wear booties in the summer? If so do you go with open or closed toes, perforated, shooties? Could I wear some summer color booties like white? Fist pic is a pair of pale grey and white booties I’m considering. I have a pair of pearl grey combat boots which you’ve seen but they may be too hot for summer.

2. I have the following silver sandals in the second pic which work well for me with the vertical line of the T-strap, so I’d like to find more in this style but am having trouble finding them. If you run across any in your shopping please let me know.

3. The third photo is another pair I’m trying out because the cage/gladiator style will hopefully cover more of my foot and hide the swelling. Opinions on this style with pants, jeans, dresses?

4. I’ve ordered these wedge sneakers. What do you think of this style with dresses, skirts, jeans?

It’s easy to feel dumpy in shoes with this condition so in keeping with my new Style name Gritty Glamour, I want to make sure any new ones I buy fit with that vibe. Any advice you have for me is appreciated.
