Thank you very much ladies! It seems that we have a mix of opinions here. I am wearing one such outfit today and will post a WIW for opinions a bit later.

Yes, I definitely meant shorter ones, mid thigh or similar length, often with shirt vents on the side. For all the purposes these shirt dresses serve as tunics, they are just called dresses. Like these two looks from Shopbop that got into my inbox today - love both dresses, but want to tell the model to put some pants on, especially in the second one.

I see a lot of them on models worn on their own (without bottoms) but I think they are styled like that just for the photo shoot because it looks good on a young, tall girl. I don't know if many people wear them like that in real life, except for the longer ones. I'm not sure if you mean the shorter tunic length ones. There are knee length ones being worn without bottoms.

I don't see to much of this combination on people but I've seen many in shops- but these are more tunic tops than actual shirt dresses. The difference I think is that tunic tops are more dress like in terms of structure and fit and less roomy like the shirt dress that could easily be worn tucked in as a button down! The look has been around forever and if it's totally you then go ahead and stock up but I'd suggest you wait and watch till Spring is actually here for this particular trend as it might look dated.

I did not see much of it IRL but I think someone posted some runway photos of skirts over skinnies, I am not sure anymore but that's kind of the same thing.
Wear it, if you still like it.

I think it's still fine, although you are right and I don't see it as much around here any more. I do still see tons of "shirt dresses" that are really just long shirts though (and with side vents too), so I would think that you'd have to wear pants under them for decency.

To me, the dress over skinnies look is just fine! I suppose since it has been around for a while, a lot of people can feel like moving on by now. But if you still like it, I see no reason why you shouldn't wear it. I would maybe not go for a lot of replacements of this look myself, though.

This has been one of the first looks I have adapted thanks to YLF - I have worn the heck out of it over the past 5 years. It is my go-to outfit when I am in a hurry, and allows me to wear (shirt) dresses to work ( we are not allowed to wear skirts, dresses etc).
I haven't noticed it much lately, neither IRL nor on YLF. I have recently done a big spring cleaning of my closet, and noticed that a lot of shirt dresses were worn, so I got rid of a bunch. I still have quite a few left, as I had quite a collection. I will continue to wear the ones I have, but am curious if it is worth getting new ones. I am tempted by newer interpretations - gingham, polka dot chambray etc., but I only see them shown worn on their own as dresses. My shopping budget is currently fairly limited and I am trying to plan wisely for spring .
