Jjsloane, I recently used nail polish remover on a nail polish stain on fabric, and it worked. I tested it fist on an inconspicuous piece of the fabric to make sure the fabric dye didn't come out, then turned the garment inside out and removed the stain from the inside.

Great outfit and I'm glad the stain came out. I swear by Zout spray and putting items in the sun to get almost all stains out (nothing works on nail polish). Oxiclean has mixed results (actually took colors out of some Hanna Andersson items), but as a last resort I do the soack and the paste. We have great stain eradicating sun on our back deck all summer, less in winter so I sometimes have to wait until next season to give it a real go.

Gigi, I did try Goo Gone back when the stain was new. It didn't work on this, but that stuff is fantastic. So is Oxyclean, and I didn't know that OxoBrite was a natural brand knock-off - I'll have to look for it in our stores.

And Refugee, I didn't try Palmolive Pure & Clear - I'll keep that in mind for net time (there's always a next time!).

I had a friend who had gotten some kind of mystery stain on a skirt, and she tried everything to no avail. She finally decided to try Goo Gone--and it got the stain out.

I don't have too many problems with stains. As soon as I notice them, I put stain remover on them and then just let them sit until laundry day. Oxyclean (well, OxoBrite, the natural brand knockoff) is my second line of defense, and I find that it works quite well.

I've heard people also recommend dry cleaners if you can't get the stain our yourself.

Ugh, I have had so many clothes (especially white) ruined by stains. For stains I can't get out, a 5 gallon bucket, oxyclean and hot water is my last resort. To prevent stains, I check clothes when I take them off at night and pre-treat with Palmolive Pure +Clear. Using a dish soap to pre-treat helps break up the oil that causes so many of the yellow stains on my whites.

Suz, try Oxyclean on the ink stain. Our dog chewed a pen and got ink on a very nice area rug. We sprinkled Oxyclean powder on it, then wet it with some water and dabbed it with a wash cloth and it all came out. Give it a try!

OMG! My 70+ yr old mom has the whitest whites! and the brightest brights! When she last visited me, she expressed disbelief at my limited laundry soap collection: Tide, Javex, Ammonia, Oxyclean.

When next I want shopping, I noted she had added some suggestions to my grocery list! Now I have a couple of different stain removers and such. Don't know if I can solve any stain problems, but Mom thinks I have the arsenal required!

Glad you were able to salvage the sweater. I like your styling very much.

I'm glad your little spell worked, the sweater looks very cozy and am glad it gets to stay with you. I once burned holes in my white jeans with bleach, because I didn't wait long enough for the bleach to mix with the water in the washing machine.

Ever since Angie posted about layering a shirt under a cowl neck sweater Layering a Blouse Under a Cowl Neck Pullover I wanted to give that look a try. Well, today was yearly mammogram day, so what better day to wear a button down shirt. I put on the sweater after the mammo, as up next was a chiropractor appt. in a cold office.

I have had this sweater for two years, and shortly after I first wore it I got some sort of yellow stain on it, about the size of a dime. Right smack dab in the front, of course! I tried everything to get it out but to no avail. Stubborn me has spent the last two years trying to remove that stubborn stain and wearing a necklace to attempt to cover it. This year I decided the stain had won the battle, time to get rid of the sweater, but thought I'd give it one more college try. In my exasperation, I simply poured bleach all over the front and threw it in the washer. "Fiddle de de, fiddle de do, look out stain, I'm done with you!" I proclaimed over the washing machine. Low and behold, it worked! The stain is gone, and the bleach didn't ruin the sweater at all.

I wore my shirt sleeves down all day, but they were scrunched up a bit when I took the photo.
