Hee hee, Shiny, if I'm ever in Boston again, I'm looking you up for a petite shopping extravaganza! I love the black jacket, silver/black blouse, and flats the best of all. I do like the aubergine jacket, but I'm not so sure about the gray sweater (as others have said).

Shiny, I always love reading your shopping posts! You have such vision about what you want and so you find it! It's great.

LOVE the snakeskin flats. I'm not a big fan of flats with different toes for some reason (maybe because my feet are so long and the contrasting toes stick out too far), but those are super cool.

The jackets look great too - I have the exact opposite problem with jackets in that the sleeves are always too short, but I can identify the glee in finding some that fit properly. THAT is a successful day at the mall!

I'm not sure about that black AT purse... looks a little fakey for the style or something? I feel like there could be better for that style of bag.

Super purchases (including the potential ones). My faves:
- black jacket with the silver/print blouse - killer outfit
- both pairs of shoes
- best of all: the AT black purse. SOOO fab. I want one (but in a different color since I have too many black things already)
The only thing I don't care so much for is the grey cardi; it looks a bit boxy.

Julijuli - It does not look cheap. I had no idea it was faux until I got home and googled it up on AT's site. It feels soft and supple. But the sleeves are very long - with zippers, which are totally cool, but impossible to shorten.

Shiny - I love all the that you purchased, especially that black boucle jacket - very cute! I'd love to go shopping with you too, and I'd be in the petite department right there with ya. I saw that leather jacket in an ad and loved it until i learned that it wasn't really leather. Does it look cheap? I haven't gone to the local AT yet to check it out but if it fit, I really might be tempted.

Shiny, whew...I'm tired just reading your post Glad you had such a great day. I really like the aubergine jacket and I'm going to look for it myself. It's so funny that the color is everywhere now...12 years ago, when I got married, I wanted my bridesmaids to wear aubergine but I couldn't find the color anywhere (I even had my bridesmaids dresses custom made and couldn't even find fabric). It was all eggplant back then. Anyway, all that to say that I have a fondness for the color and feel it flatters a lot of different people :)

I LOVE your shoes. It's very true that people have different levels of fussy feet because my feet throw a fit in SW shoes. I love the designs so it makes me sad. I'll live vicariously through your feet in these killer shoes!

Your other AT purchases are great too. The cardigan and the blouse are so nice. The jacket is great too. You really came away with some good purchases!

Kyle: you're so much taller than me, I envy you because you probably had a lot more fun in AT than I had! They really had some very nice Fall things coming in. I circled around the regular's and they offered so much more than they offered in the petite section. The petite section seemed to revolve around only black, silver, grey and a pattering of aubergine... but no blouses to coordinate. Did you try on the bikers' jacket?? I bet it would be killer on you!!

It seems AT's online site is still focused on summer clearance items... I'm not seeing many of the items I saw in the store... so I guess maybe in another week there may be more range there, at least. But I will say that I liked AT's color palette more than BR's this time around. BR's palette seems too similar to last year.... and way too many puffy sleeve blouses.... plus, again, the petite section was woefully sparse compared to the regular section. BR Monogram pieces aren't offered in petite...big disappointment for me. But we'll see...

Nicole - this isn't my typical shopping experience! I think I just had a lucky day. It helped that Bloomie's was having some event - that set the tone right off the bat.

I had been itching to go fall shopping for weeks - envying everyone who was taking advantage of the Nordie's annual sale, when I couldn't. So I had a lot of pent-up shopping desires and.... like a true addict needing her fix.... I was just so happy to be in the mall alone with hours to kill without feeling guilty about it. I'm not sure if that happiness showed and made sales clerks more talkative than usual, or if the sales clerks were in good moods so that made me happier ... probably a combo!

I still didn't manage a *full 8 hours* like you did with your sister - I can't even *begin* to imagine that!!! I was only in the mall about 4 hours, and by the end I was about to drop over from exhaustion - despite all the comfy seats and Pelligrino!

OK, first of all let me say that I want to go shopping with you Shiny. I love hearing you describe the comfy seats and all the friends you make along the way. You really do know how to shop!

I love both of the shoes...The booties remind me of a very similar style that was so popular in the 80's. I had a pair back then. And the ballet flats are adorable. I love them.

I'm also digging that aubergine jacket. I've seen a lot of that color this season and a mannequin display at the Natick Mall (either Macy's or Nordies) had several mannequins dressed in that color with brown and cream. It was a very memorable display.

I'm glad you had such a therapeutic day after you hectic week.

Shiny: I was also at Ann Taylor yesterday and had good luck (I think; will post pix later) and it's odd because I have not shopped there in ages.

Your black boucle jacket is a 10. Keep! Perfect in every way.
The black and grey blouse -- another 10. Love animal prints when they look this classy.

The aubergine looks like a 9. I just can't see the detail well. Every so slightly prefer the black jacket.

The shoes, as others have said, are fab.

Thanks Angie! Yes, the SW flats are also very comfy. I think this is a good brand for me - every style in that brand felt comfy. I had a bit of a hard time talking myself into buying them, because I kept thinking I could get something similar in Me-Too brand for a lot cheaper... but then the sales clerks told me about the deal going on...

Yep, I think I may double up on the straight legs. I've been wearing them constantly and feel great in them. But I have yet to debut my skinnies. I think the skinnies will ultimately work better with knee-high boots.

The SW flats took my breath away in your other post. I rated them 10 there and I’ll rate them 10 again here! KILLER. I mean K-I-L-L-E-R. Best flats I’ve seen in a long time.

I think you did REALLY well. I’m inclined to say keep everything !! The black jacket and blouse are especially beautiful. So chic and elegant. They get a 10 too. I can also see you carry the bag. Wait a wee while though. You’re not sure yet. I think it’s wise to stick to black.

Sihaya - the aubergine (or is it plum?) jacket is a swing jacket - and yes it is a departure from my usual waist-defining strategy. I had one knit jacket from H&M in this shape last year, and I found every now and then I liked the change of pace. Especially on bloaty days. ;-)

I did debate the most on that jacket.... was on the fence. I definetly could not resist the color. I may keep the tags on it and if something different in same color shows up. I don't think the stores are quite in full fall mode yet.

Alecia - the cardi has a lot of potential. I will be playing around with it. It is very soft and yummy and just "felt" right for more cozy days. Perhaps a belted blouse underneath would provide more definition? And yes it is that "chanelesque" shape.... I liked the idea of a chanelesque cardigan instead of a chanel jacket.

Tanya - Tolstoy is my favorite author. Yes, I can be verbose. I type - and talk - very fast. The coach bag was plum. I've been leaning towards plum or green (but I wear a lot of green, so I'm not sure) or just a basic black purse. I am planning on adding only one "investment" purse this fall. It's tricky picking which color, without having my fall wardrobe pulled out of storage just yet. I can't wait to see how you are going to wear your aubergine jacket!!

I'm so glad to hear you all like the shoes!!!

Wow Shiny, I have written long mall reports before, but you have certainly beaten me with this one I truly enjoyed reading this one. Leo Tolstoy should be scared :)

First I must say that I absolutely adore both pair of shoes. Killer as Angie would say. Please, please keep them both.

Bags: I really like the AT black one, i can totally see you carrying it. The Coach bag in cracked patent sounds yummy ( without the imprint of course). What color(s) did it come in in which were you considering?

I love all the AT clothes you got. The black boucle jacket fits you very well, the printed blouse is gorgeous, the necklace very pretty. I adore that aubergine jacket. I actually really like it with silver/black blouse underneath. I recently got something somewhat similar from H&M and actually plan to wear it with black, all shades of grey and teal, and maybe add some small accent somewhere in warm golden yellow. The soft cardi is a little looser, but I think it's supposed to be, I mean it is that chanelesque shape right?

Overall, I think you did amazing and I am glad you felt pampered, you certainly deserve it!

Shiny -

I always love your input and advice. You always put so much thought and care into it. So I especially love the story you told about helping out the woman at bloomingdales. It's so you and so wonderful.

With respect to the purchases, my favorites are the AT blouse and the Weisman flats. I first saw the flats in the post you did on the NL blouse and thought, "wow, those are great." And then you posted them up close and they're even better. Yum.

The black jacket fits well and I think will be very versatile. I'm not sure about the soft cardigan. I couldn't really see it too well in the picture. It does not appear to give you much definintion. The aubergine jacket has a fun swing to it and beautiful color. I would think that a jacket like that would have the potential to have little definition, but I think the seams up the front help make it more structured. I also like the banded sleeves.

Wow Shiny - sounds like you had a blast and came home with quite the loot. I'll start from the bottom up. I LOVE both pairs of shoes. The AT black purse is a statement piece - I would buy it in a heartbeat if it came in red since that's the next color I'd like a purse in. I like your black jacket better than the tweedy one - something about the fabric of the second one doesn't seem to sit as well but it might be a factor of how the photo was angled? Really like the patterned top - very pretty. Great soft cardigan. And very fun story reading about your time at the mall.

I had a horribly busy week, both professionally and personally - esp getting the kids back to school. They are now with their dad for the next week. DH and I have been quite fried. All he wanted to do today was sleep and veg; I was in the mood for some shopping therapy and "me" time... which I had!

My first stop was bloomingdale's. They were having some event - I am not sure what it was - but I was greeted at the door by someone serving fancy hor douevres ... that set the tone quite nicely!

Bloomie's had little fall clothes and was mostly pushing end-of-summer sale items. I first bee-lined to a sales rack. There was a woman about my age, height, and body type, with two teens in tow. She was trying on a jacket that was a size P but way too large on her. I commented that it was the right idea - just too big. She sighed and we got to chatting about how much of a challenge it is to find clothing if you're only 5'0" with a mature figure, and have $ to spend and want something upscale. There's just so very little!!

She said she was going to hit the bloomie's petite department... and I rolled my eyes and said, "you won't like it... you're too young at heart for what they have; try upstairs, venture into the more junior designers.. take a chance..."

We parted and I headed towards Elie Tahari. I tried on several leather and tweed jackets which were close ... but not quite worth the $. If I'm going to spend that much, it has to be perfect. (I am okay with sleeve shortening but everything else has to work).

Then I headed upstairs and did a very quick run-through Aqua, Nanette Lapore, Theory, DVF, Sweet Pea, and BCBG... but mostly everything I had already seen a few weeks back. I tried on one interesting plaid jacket (Acqua) that I took a cell phone pic of ... but still haven't figured out how to download that to my 'puter. I put it on hold but ultimately did not end up buying it.

My last stop at Bloomie's was the sad sorry petite department... I ran into the same woman again. She was resting in a chair looking frustrated, sad and defeated. As I approached, she said "you were sooo right... this is clothes my mother would wear, not me!"

Then she and her teen daughter both inquired about my sweet pea blouse. I gave them the sweet pea pitch (perfect for any size especially hourglasses - and confessed I own several now). I told her to head upstairs, where they were on sale. And also if she liked them, to check out bluefly!

I then proceeded into the mall and hit Ann Taylor, where I think I scored very well! I don't know what it was about today, but sales clerks were ultra-helpful and nice. Maybe because I was in such a good mood or maybe because retail sales are sagging so they're trying harder.;-)

Here's what I got from AT - let me know if they are keepers.

1) Black boucle jacket. I know, I am buying a lot of black jackets lately! But black is very appropriate for Boston, and this one is heavier than the other two I bought recently. I think this is my last black jacket for awhile:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....834592125/

close-up - the top button does button just fine - I was simply in a hurry with this photo shoot, so we could get out to dinner:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....835429476/

2) Yummi soft cardigan - couldn't resist!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....834592497/

3) Black and silver/gray sleeveless blouse (seen under the above):

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....834592627/

4) Aubergine tweed jacket:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....835429918/

I would not wear this blouse under it; it doesn't go together, in my opinion. But I do like the idea of some sort of blouse that has a pattern peaking out underneath. The sales clerk was very cute... she saw me in this and said, "wow, I'd never have considered pairing that jacket with a patterened blouse!" I said, "but this is the wrong pattern - the colors don't work at all" and asked if she had anything else to coordinate. Unfortunately, they don't. But, I loved the color (hard to see in the pic) and I figure I can find something later that will work better. This seems like it will be a popular color this season!

Not the best close-up but here goes - and I bought the necklace from AT because it seemed to coordinate nicely - though may need some shortening to be just so....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....835430048/

I had the AT sales clerk hold all of these items while I proceeded onward...

Next, I did a quick run through Coach. I wanted to see some bags I'd seen online in person. I found something similar to this:

http://www.coach.com/content/p.....ry_id=1196

Except in a crackled patent and without the queer imprint thingie (what the heck is that??) It was nice and lightweight which gets bonus points for me. Size was good scale for me (oversized tote without overwhelming my short frame). But lots of $. And I'm kinda not sure what I want just yet for a fall bag. So I didn't buy it but it is filed away as a potential...

Onward I went...

There is a new store in my local mall, a Neiman Marcus spin-off called "Cusp." They just opened. Sales clerk met me at the door. I asked, "What is the concept" and she explained they are trying to hit the 20-50 market. I thought that was interesting, so we chatted about that. She explained that there are a lot of 40-50 women who still feel youthful and "with it" enough to want to wear trendy clothing. I nodded enthusiastically!! That's me!! She then showed me around and suggested a few interesting items, but alas, all of them were too big for petite little me. But I loved the idea of the store...

Onward I went.... next stop, a quick run-through of BCBG. Nothing new there, so out I went again.

Next I hit Cole Haan. I love their shoes. I was greeted by the most amazing sales clerk ever. He saw me eyeing boots with an overwhelmed and intimidated look on my face. He asked what I was looking for, I explained that I'd worn my straight leg jeans and my mission was to find boots to wear with them. He said, "Sit right down here on this comfy couch - let me get you a Pelligrino because I'm sure you're thirsty... and I will bring my suggestions to you!!"

(are you loving this or what.... I felt so pampered... )

Unfortunately, every last pair of boots just didn't work. This is going to be a challenge for me. My legs are simply too short, and the boots all too high!! But, they have some beautiful, gorgeous & comfy boots, my tall friends.

I then told him about the items I had on hold at AT, and how I wanted shoes that went "pop" with them. He eyed me up and down, said, "I absolutely love that necklace you're wearing - and I'm guessing you are a pearl girl??" I nodded ... oh YES! He responded, "I KNEW it!!! You're so .... Audrey.... 1940s, classic.... Okay, I have the shoe for you!!!"

Then he whipped out two pairs of absolutely GORGEOUS pumps... first pair was grey suede round-toe pumps (very 40s) and second pair was red suede with oxford detailing and ankle straps... both were stunning and awesome... but I just can't do the 4 inch heels!!!!!!

He gave me his card with the brands and style info written down, in case I change my mind... but I doubt I will... as beautiful as they were.... I just can't do a heel that high. Sighhhhhhh.....

I then went back to AT and before buying my previously selected items, tried on the motorcycle jacket I posted about earlier, which was fab but the sleeves were just way too long for me.

I also took a look at this purse - since I probably need one good black purse - and the accessories were all on sale. The scale was very good for me. What do you think - I didn't buy - but should I go back and get it:

http://www.anntaylor.com/catal.....ory=Misses

Then I had to head through Bloomie's to get back to my car. At this point, my lunch had worn off and I was glucose-deprived and fatigued and not really thinking all that straight. But I swung through the shoe department since it was on the way....

And ended up sitting in a cushy chair, having three sales ladies fetching shoes for me to try on to coordinate with the AT clothes!

Oh- and there was this woman who tried on Angie's lace-up boots - the ones she blogged about!!! They looked totally fab on this woman and I insisted she had to buy them, which she did. The sales clerks begged me to try them too, but I couldn't even get my foot into them (something strange about them - maybe you need narrow feet?). I also know in my heart this style is just not me... as much as I'm a mood dresser...

I spent a good hour having fun in the shoe department, and ended up buying these two pairs of shoes... there was a deal going on, complicated deal involving finally signing up for a bloomie's credit card to get extra % off, but basically the end result was I got one pair for free:

Stuart Weisman ankle boots - they are actually a dark silver, not black - and heel is managebly high! Very comfy - and roomy enough I can wear my cashmere socks underneath to keep warm:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....otostream/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....otostream/

and Stuart Weisman ballet flats with fake snake-skin detailing:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....834636777/

I may have been too glucose-deprived so I'm not sure about these shoes... what do you think?? Keepers? Or I can do better? I can return if they don't meet YLF approval!

Finally, since I was now armed with a bloomie's card, and told I'd get 20% off anything else I bought today, I hit the bra section and added two more Chantelle's ... which were desparately needed. I am now going to throw away all the Victoria's secret bras and stick exclusively to Chantelle from here on out.

Whew!! Whirlwind day but it was a lot of fun!

Let me know what you think of my purchases - keepers? If so, how to style? Accessory suggestions? And the purse... I just want to purchase one single "investment" purse this fall, but completely unsure what to do here.

Purse, blouses and knee high boots are still on my list. Today was mostly "jacket" day and I think I did okay on that!
