The Nanette Lepore is a must-have. Stunning! Can see it with a pencil skirt. Might have to put that one on the birthday list.

It might be rain resistant - the canvas is very thick and stiff. But I imagine in wind and rain, having only one button and the collar that is stuck in place wide open would make for a miserable experience.

The Jcrew trench I bought this spring has been working out great since it is waterproof. Unfortunately I bought in khaki before I knew better with YLF. It is also short, not 3/4 length. Maybe if the Jcrew folks follow this forum, they will get the hint and come out with a cream, longer trench! That would be ideal!!

Oh really? Thanks for the info Shiny! It sounds like the canvas material would get soggy and bogged down in the rain. Maybe I'll take a pass, since I am looking for a true cream trench that would at least be rain resistant.

It's not cream at all. It's most definetly a white-white trench. Optic white. As white as my white jeans. (although I do believe I saw it offered in black as well). And the canvas material: not sure it's meant for rain.

It is a stellar looking trench, fab statement item. Walk in a room and everyone notice you type of coat.

I love the dramatic collar, but I was concerned because you can't close it over or button it up or anything. It is exactly as it looks and you can't change that neckline. The collar does not budge - it's all tacked down into place just so. Therefore, you'd have to wear a scarf around the neck to keep out rain and chill.

Also, it has just one single button at the waistline.

I think bloomie's may be having a one-day sale this week; if the price comes down, it might be worth it anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion of white NL blouse. I do agree, seeing it in white last night, it seemed it was meant to be that color. I could see myself wearing this one for dressy occasions with a skirt, or with dress slacks for my infrequent business meetings, or just with jeans for smart casual..... I will give it a few days to see if my enthusiasm wavers. So far, after sleeping on it last night, it hasn't.

Sorry you felt you had a frustrating day Shiny, but I actually think you have treasures on the horizon! You have loads of great basics – go for the super duper cherries for a while. They’ll add the luster you’re after. Here’s my two cents:

o	The NL blouse was meant to be white. I quite like the black, but the white is perfect.
o	The cream trench is the one Ana ordered, right? I can’t see cream trenches dating. That would be like black trenches dating.
o	Three quarter sleeves have been around for 12 years. They are a mainstream basic. A great retro look and a super visual layering vehicle.

Do you already own a great white blouse? If yes, I'd go for the teal. As for the sale, I guess it's up to you to figure out the risk of it being sold out in your size by the time it goes on sale .

ACK!

Okay, I can rule out black. Although it is true that a part of me this fall is craving black.... I think it's the Boston/conservative thing. You can never go wrong with black, if you live in Boston. Which is why I want a new jacket (or two) in black. But I think for blouses I want something to go under and give a pop of color.

White is nice and safe and versatile .... the red was a good red for me, but I have to say that the teal is appealing more for some reason....

So toss up between white and teal....

And maybe I should wait for it to go on sale?

Shiny, I really like the Nanette Lepore Blouse. I have a similar one from J. Crew in ivory (although not nearly as nice) and I get a lot of use out of it, year round. Are you thinking of the red one or the white?

I'm with you on buying investment pieces now. I have a nice "basic" wardrobe, so I find I'm not in such a hurry to buy things and get to save a little to get something nicer. I am very happy with purchases I make this way.

Joy, it has a peplum detail, like in Angie's recent blog. It's very short - hits at highest hip. Very good if your natural waist is higher up (like mine is). The only thing that stopped me about this jacket was that it is 3/4 length sleeves. I tend to think the 3/4 length is more faddish, and not as practical. But if it was on sale, or I found something similar at H&M for cheaper, I might've bit. Otherwise, had it been full length sleeves, I'd likely have bought it because it was adorable and really played up my hourglass shape.

We went to the beach today, and on the way home stopped for dinner. There was a boutique next to the restaurant (already long closed) and in the window there was the exact same Nanette Lappore blouse - except in white. I liked it in white too.

I am thinking I should take that as a sign that I'm meant to have that blouse. ;-)

I think my major plan for fall is to buy investment pieces - with perhaps a few lower budget trendy items just for fun. But I think I'm going to go for quality over quantity this year - I have a pretty good base wardrobe after all my shopping this past year.

Hopefully Angie will weigh in here - I would like her opinion on this blouse for me.

I am sorry you had a frustrating experience Shiny. You should definitely check out H&M, a lot of cute trendy things.

My local BR has mostly fall stuff, only one corner with summer things on clearance. The colors are similar to last year, but then again I don't mind it a single bit because I love purples&teals. I love the white shirt you got, I saw it too and it's very pretty.

That Nanette Leppore blouse is to die for! I'd certainly get it if I could afford it, it would look smashing on you.

As for the plan thing, I usually make up a list in the beginning of the season with things I need, I'm looking for or saw online and liked. I try to zero in on a couple of color schemes and styles ( e.g. biker, romantic and so on). So I keep this in mind when I go to the mall, so if i find something from my list then great, but if I'm attracted to something that's not there but still fits generally into my plan for the season I'll get it.

I was all excited to do some fall shopping, but most of the stores I hit were filled about 85% with only summer clothes on sale. I'm all done with summer clothes and had no interest in them. :-(

I'm afraid I have no pics, and will have no pics until we complete the uploading of the 1400 paris photos to clear off our camera cards. And I'm having trouble finding images of the clothing I did try on or buy! Grr.

First I hit Bloomie's - and I walked in with more confidence than I've ever had in that store. I think the Paris trip has changed me forever. hee hee.

I tried on a gorgeous white Theory shirt - it wasn't just any white shirt: it had ruching around the waist line to make it something special. This perked me up after my disappointing Ann Fontaine experience.

But alas I went back and forth and back and forth between the XS and the Small .... couldn't decide which fit better. The XS worked great lengthwise and for my shoulders, but was a tad too tight on the bustline. The small might have been tailorable, but I think it was too loose in the shoulders. I ended up NOT buying, but feeling better that I *will* find my perfect white shirt one of these days!!!

Then I hit BR (I had some coupons) and was disappointed that most of what they had was summer clearance items, and the fall items they did have looked a lot like last fall (color-wise). I found that I just kept saying "nope, already have something very similar."

But I did end up buying two short-sleeve knit tops that I can't find on their site: one in champagne and a wrap top in blue. And a I also bought two camis (one nude and one white) as they were having a special and I needed to refresh this basic.

I also bought this shirt in white:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....=587920022

I debated back and forth about this one, but ultimately, I liked the black buttons for some reason!

And I tried on a petite black sweater dress that I can't find on the site (I think my local BR might just be a test store; it was also the first to offer petites). The black dress went all the way down to cover my knees - so NOT tunic length, which I liked. It had a very interesting neckline, which I loved. Unfortunately it was very form-fitting, and even with the right undergarments, I feared it would show too many bumps and bulges (i.e., eat one meal and I'd look preggers). So I passed it up. (also after reminding myself I only wore last season's BR sweater dress twice).

At Ann Taylor I found quite a few jackets - on sale and not on sale - that fit great and tempted me, but I didn't buy any.

I really liked this jacket - but neither the pants or skirt fit me, and this one just seemed like it should be a suit (would be absolutely perfect for my occasional west-coast business trips). Not sure the jacket alone would work with jeans though:

http://tinyurl.com/6q74lm

and this jacket was cute - I am definetly on the lookout for a perfect black jacket or two this year - just not sure this is "the one" -

http://tinyurl.com/6y7sa2

and I loved this blouse - esp the structural detailing around the neckline - but they didn't have in my size:

http://tinyurl.com/6zhll3

Onward to BCBG.... there were a lot of jackets I tried on - none in my size - but I may be returning later when they get more of their fall stuff in. They had some gorgeous jackets, including one that comes close to what I'm looking for in a "menswear-inspired" silouhette, and another that had a peplum but long sleeves instead of 3/4 like the AT one above.

Then I went back to Bloomie's again - I had to go through it again, since my car was parked nearby. I was starting to think "I have no fall plan" and "I'm getting picky because I already have a lot of things... not sure what I need." The only thing I know for sure, is I want more jackets and blouses, and a pair of boots to tuck skinnies into but I wasn't in the mood for shoe shopping. And sweaters to wear with skinnies - but I just wasn't in the mood to try any of those on either.

I revisited the white theory blouse, and (despite two women in the dressing room who ooh'd and ahhh'd and insisted I buy it), I found my mind hadn't changed about it. The fit was close - but not close enough.

Then I did a quick circle-round Bloomie's. I tried on this Nanette Lapore blouse and it was to die for:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....n_results#

But.... I choked on the price tag... maybe I will reconsider. I don't know. I also tried this on, just for fun... but it just wasn't "me":

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....sn_results

Next I discovered Aqua, a brand I don't think I've ever tried on before. I fell in love with this white trench (it's kind of a canvasy material) - fit me perfectly, price was good - but i thought it would be better for Spring. However, it is going on sale soon - what do you think - will it be in style next spring?

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....4*-1*-1*19

Aqua also had a black motorcycle jacket (can't find on the site) with assymetrical detail that fit me perfectly - but I don't think this is really my look, so I passed it up. I did see quite an array of gorgeous leather jackets all over bloomie's.... but I already own four, so it's hard for me to buy another one unless it's absolutely fab and unique.

I ran out of time but may go back to try this one on:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/.....24*-1*-1*1

I think I do much better when I shop online first, then go hit the mall with a plan. And I need to get to H&M because their prices are better for trendy items.

Well that's my report!!! Now off to the beach since we finally have some sun....
