I'm so glad to hear you may be able to speak with a mgr regarding this issue.

it is sooo frustrating to purchase an item and have something like this happen. i've had the shed factor when wearing black (always black, i never pair shedding items with any other color it seems) and have spent the day feeling a ridiculous fuzzy mess. ugh....

I recently came home with a knit tee from ATL and after one wear, I found these tiny pin-holes in the front of the shirt, like it had been pinned and then slightly torn. I didn't notice them in the store. Tags were off, and I had them for a week, though I hadn't washed it. The store took it back (I had my receipt) no problem, and they said that if I hadn't had a receipt they would have exchanged it for store credit, since it was a fairly new item in the store and shouldn't have fallen apart that quickly.

So Maya, even though it isn't Nordstrom, it is certainly worth a try.

Shana, I have last year's (scoop neck) version of the ATL sweater with button detail. If the fabric is the same in your version as it was in mine, after a year of wear during cool weather, it has hardly pilled at all - I've only once run my sweater shaver under the armpit area (where there is a lot more friction) to remove little fuzzies.

Maya, I just called. You work in Manhattan right? I called the flagship at 42nd and Broadway. (212) 704-4195. They told me to pass by with the sweater and the receipt and speak to the manager.

The lady told me that most times they would let you exchange the item.

I don't think they'd have a problem with you returning it, especially if you still have the receipt. You will probably get a merchandise credit, as I did after returning an unworn blouse w tags and gift receipt. I think their policy was 90 days.

I've never had an issue returning an item without tags at most places. They usually barely look at the item half the time! So it's at least worth a shot!

I've been consistently irritated with the customer-service policies of ATL when I've had a problem. I wouldn't count on this one going your way.

Maya,

I got zero in terms of advice but ah, I can relate.

I own that very same sweater. I already wore it, for just a couple hours. I did notice some piling but I figure it was me being reckless. I am a mess when it comes to my clothes. The tags are off and everything so I guess we are on the same boat.

I had a similar fate with a rouched shoulder sweater I bought at fashion night out. It is unwearable after just one washing. I figure it was me, yet again.

I never thought of returning them. You are so right thought. This should not happen.
ETA: I already have a bone to pick with the flagship store in NYC. I will ask and let you know.

I know generally stores don't take merchandise back after washing, but come on! I have owned this for two weeks and worn/washed it ONCE. How is this acceptable and not considered defective? I know some sweaters just aren't meant to last, but for what it cost I expected to get at least just a season out of it. This isn't Forever 21.

It's only 5% rabbit hair so it shouldn't be clumping and making a mess of the rest of my clothes.

Wonder if Taylor will chime in...

Sorry to hear about this, Maya. I just asked to be removed from their e-mail list because shipping to Alaska is $25 minimum, so I'm irked with them already. I'd write to their customer service people and see if you can convince them to take it back.

Oh no, so sorry to hear. I am not familiar with returns at AT Loft so I cannot advise.
Makes me wonder if I should keep the 3 button sweaters I recently ordered and are on their way to my home.

Angora is mostly brushed out of rabbits with a wire brush. They shed naturally. As a fiber I've found it sheds like crazy, so I tend to avoid it. Can't help you on their return policy.

I would think that the sweater could be considered "defective" and I would take it back even after I washed it, since it's clearly not something that would be considered acceptable by any customer. Does anybody really buy a sweater and *expect* it to shed?? I wouldn't.

Unworn or unwashed would apply to merchandise that is simply not the right size, etc that can be expected to be put back on the shelf to be re-sold. Defective might not show up until after the first few wearings or washing and wouldn't be resold so the "unworn unwashed" thing wouldn't apply as far as I'm concerned.

I'm pretty sure you could take it back.

It doesn't hurt to give it a shot but I'm a bit doubtful. It ain't Nordstroms. If it was AT it would be a different story - I was there yesterday and there was a woman returning a pair of pants that were clearly worn multiple times (with electronic sensor tag cut out) and she was trying to claim that she had never worn it because she needed the petite.

To be honest, as much as I'm an ATL fan, I don't find their sweaters to be very good quality (much, much prefer BR in this regard). Hmmm, maybe I won't keep that button detail, v-neck sweater after all....

I am so sorry to hear that Maya! What a bummer. I am not super familiar with ATL return policies, but I would guess that it is more likely that they won't take it back considering it has been washed. But it never hurts to ask.

Uggggghhhhh.

My colorblock sweater tunic that I got from ATL is shedding like mad (and of course I decided to wear it with my black skinnies, so the gray fuzz can be shown off to maximum effect). In some places entire clumps of fuzz are are forming and I constantly have to pull them out. Even my bag is getting covered in fuzz from being held under my arm.

I have only had it for about two weeks. I washed it once in cold water and laid flat to dry. The fabric content is mostly rayon and nylon, with like 10% merino wool and 5% rabbit hair (to my horror--if I had known there was bunny fur I wouldn't have even bothered with it).

Does anyone know if ATL will take it back? There is no way I can continue to wear it. It's disintegrating right before my very eyes. I am so self conscious right now :(

I seriously hope my green dolman sleeve sweater doesn't meet the same fate. I will be so disappointed and inclined to never, ever shop at ATL again.
