I loved this article, too! This is my favorite outfit formula, actually, and I employ it at every turn on the weekends.

I really need jackets! I have one gray blazer from the time before YLF and a denim jacket that I want to replace in the near future. My striped blazer is more like a cardigan or sweatshirt, so I don't think it falls into the jacket category. My gray blazer is a bit more dressy I think, so according to my list I'm still in need of a lightweight spring jacket, a tweed or wool blazer and a new fab denim jacket.

yay for jackets :), and thanks for the wisdom and input, ladies. Isabel, you are a lucky girl to have such a good style influence in your life :).

Helen, Angie's advice is to concentrate on a good shoulder fit first. I'm thinking that different shaped jackets might work better for you, and for that you might need to strike when your style comes into fashion? I know it's exagarated shape, but I tried on a coccoon shaped jacket at Cos a few years back, and was amazed at how flattering it was. Really! Who would have thought?

I LOVE jackets, I always have. Even in college, I would wear blazers ( which made me very strange...). I have never thought of it as structure, I didn't know better, but now I realize that I have always been attracted to structure....like going back to 4th grade. I have always liked tailored things on me. Probably my mom made all my clothes through college and she was a stickler about structure and fit.

My mom was also really into the "third" item. How strange that we have no idea what we are doing for decades.

Getting older, I'm finding the structure of a jacket wonderful to pull an outfit together.

A killer jacket can define your whole look, no doubt about it, and can flatter your body so well that you don't want to take it off! My frustration is finding amazing jackets in my size - I'm XL in the tummy area and M - L in the shoulders. That means a lot of extra money on alterations, etc., if I were to buy the bigger size. My pre-YLF solution was to always wear the jacket open...don't think I was fooling anyone!

I have quite a few jackets and love how they add to an outfit. Some are neutral and others are definitely not. I love them.

I used to own quite a lot of jackets, but worn them mostly with trouser jeans. Now, that changed me to a skirts and dresses girl, found it harder to match them with jackets(other than denim)...But for formal, a jacket is the winner for sure in my case, too-:-))

I own more jackets now, also. I think maybe I had one plain black jacket that went with a suit before, but now I have 6, including a sharp-shoulded one, a lavender one, a teal velvet one and a leather one!

Excellent Lynne. Thanks for sharing.

In my case, I did own some jackets before, but the collection did grow a bit in post-YLF days. Not too much, but enough to see the influences of my new style age.

However, like with everything post-YLF, it's the awareness of what I'm wearing that really finishes my outfits (or so I hope). So, in case of jacket, it is about making deliberate choices that really project the vibe I'm after, rather than grabbing the safe options without thinking about them too much.

shared this link to Imogen Lamports blog:

http://www.insideoutstyleblog......t+Style%29

I love how Imogen illustrates everything visually, in this example how a high impact 'third piece' (often but not always a jacket) can change the flavour of a neutral ensemble.

Pre-YLF I owned one jacket. I didn't really appreciate how much they can change the vibe of an outfit and add structure to a silhouette. So I am sharing the love :).
