I was just about to say the same thing! I work with kids ages 6 - 14, and the younger ones (and sometimes even the middle schoolers) think that any teacher has to be ancient. But sometimes "ancient" to them means 23! When the younger kids guess our ages we get everything from 17 to 82. Once a 5th grader in the library told me I had to be at LEAST 35. Flattered, I shrugged and said to the librarian, "Hey, I'll take it." I asked the fare, and the youngish driver chirped: "$2.00 for seniors!" Back at the hotel, I looked up the rates on line. My "uniform" apparently reads young, and I cover the grey, but mostly the rampant ageism blinds them to the idea that anyone as old as I am could actually exist and walk around breathing and even produce good work, so they simply don't realize that I'm as old as I am. Sometimes the comments are hilarious! I haven't heard "little old lady" yet, though. The other day, one of my co-workers was asking who the shift lead was. I wasn't sure of her name and he asked me if it was "the little old lady".
