Oooooh, thanks mushroom, for the link tip! I ambled through that site some time ago (maybe when I was researching my foot control replacement), but it is sure nice to have the reminder to register and visit regularly! I wonder if I could spare time and space to get back to some sewing for myself. That is what I dreamt I would do in retirement -- but as sometimes happens, it was not the way my life is turning out!

Yes. I was so thrilled to see the SideWinder when I initially Googled around, and then SO crestfallen to learn it won't handle my machine's bobbins. Not least of the reasons being the difference in the price tags. (I just went through getting the correct foot control and cord, for about $80 so I wasn't eager to have to spend a lot again, but there it is.) Yes, the Corgi looks like my only option, and I am very glad to know it is available. Now maybe I need to ALSO stock up on the bobbins, themselves!

Your bobbins will not work on the SideWinder. The only option I found was the Corgi Electric Bobbin Winder

Thanks Deb, I'll check that site out. The SideWinder was what initially clued me in that there even EXIST things like off-machine bobbin winders. I've led a sheltered life! :-). I don't have a number from the Manual for my machine but this is it: http://www.sewingpartsonline.c.....975-g.aspx . Thanks, again!

What is the number on your bobbin? I am on my second Viking machine So I understand your difficulties. This bobbin winder will not work for Husqvarna Viking machines that use the 412 09 75-45 Sure Fit bobbins.

And check this site out. They have two winders for the different Viking bobbins.

http://www.allbrands.com/categ.....ed-prewind

I hope this helps.

Well, in the past when my bobbin winder was non functional I used to wind the bobbins by hand. You have to be careful to keep the tension as even as possible, and even then I would try sewing with it on sturdy stuff before a silk blouse, but it beats having a totally unusable machine for want of a bobbin.

Hi Beth Ann, My sewing repair/maintenance shop closed several years ago. I guess soon I will have to replace this machine but, like you, I love mine. I hadn't thought about contacting Husqvarna, they were not a lot of help to me last try -- I bought this machine from its first owner and it was already past "current model" age. I DID work with SewingMachineParts.com for the foot control and they've been pretty fab, but they show the bobbin winder part that broke on my machine as no longer stocked. A lot of the problem is that I've been preoccupied with other things and let my machine sit idle (and unrepaired) for a long time.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I will try contacting the company before I give up!

I have the last of the all-metal Viking machines, Linda, and I love it. Mine is fully operational, but I do have trouble with bobbins, partly because the newer ones aren't a perfect fit.

Good machine repair (or repair of anything, actually) is hard to find. I take mine back to my hometown, where an 80 year man still works on them in his basement, as he's been doing for 50 years. He takes longer these days!

Have you contacted Husqvarna by email?

I finally got a replacement foot control and the right power cord for it, for my old, old Viking 1100 sewing machine. I was on a little bit of a roll, since I had accumulated a pile of hemming and alterations to do (I am short; nearly anything that I buy has to be altered to fit).

My bobbin winding mechanism went "pop" a while ago, before the foot control quit working. I tried to wind a bobbin with it after running out of thread, since resuming using it. But it doesn't turn.

I have been seeing bobbin winding accessories around on sewing sites, but the trouble is most say (or other people say) they don't work for the Viking Husqvarna bobbins that my machine uses. They're the plastic bobbin that has a slightly curved top .... um, side.

I haven't Googled a lot on this but was wondering whether maybe someone here had found a satisfactory alternate way to wind bobbins? For the time being, my machine is once again on hiatus, unless I had a bobbin already wound that I can use.
