Being able to test and prevent is the big thing. Not knowing and not being able to do anything is awful, and that's what our parents and grandparents had to contend with. I wish you all the best and hope all goes well for you!

Thanks, Deb, yours do sound similar to mine. I think the scariest part for me is the doc says it is an aggressive type, on the ascending right side. I do have colon cancer in the family but not my parents. My maternal grandmother and paternal aunt both had it at a young age. That was before the typing and such. It is nice to know that the time between procedures will stretch out eventually. I am so used to the stroke and seizure stuff and they do not phase me. This is a totally different story. Glad to know it will become part of my 'normal'.

Hi Deb:) I have regular colonoscopies:( Each time I have had polyps removed. So far they have all been harmless except one that I believe had the potential to become "sinister' if left to its own devices. I have a tendency to develop the flat type (which I think might be what you are referencing) that are difficult to see :(

After my last one last year, I am now on two yearly rotation for my colonoscopy:)

Initially this was all very scary for me. My Dad had bowel cancer. But I now approach it in a much more positive light which is that I have the opportunity for prevention when he didn't. After each procedure I make sure the Doc explains everything to me (I don't always remember it later on) so that I am clear on what is happening, if anything.

I am probably telling you what you already know but my in my case, my Doctor had me have them every 12 months for a couple of years in order to assess how quickly my body creates and develops them, now I am on 2 yearly.

A friend of mine, who has a family history of bowel cancer has them 3 yearly. He has only once had a polyp. I get the impression that 3 years might be along as they stretch it out here.

For me this is now just one of the many things I do regularly, like breast test, pap smear, eye checks, etc.

Happy to answer any questions if I can help:)

xxx Deborah

I had two sessile serrated adenomas removed from my colon last month. One with dysplasia and one without, I now need to have another colonoscopy done in three months and another a year after that. This is a new one for me and would like to hear from anyone who has had personal experience with it. Thanks.
