Mayapple, How about the ballet flats that actually curve in around the foot opening? It almost looks like they are elasticized around the foot hole. Would that help in keeping the shoe on your foot? (I've never tried these kinds of shoes on, but I'm just thinking of solutions for your narrow heel.)

Something like this that only has the elasticizing in the back?
http://www.6pm.com/n/p/p/7341162/c/200.html

Or something more like this, with the elastic all the way around?
http://www.6pm.com/n/p/p/7299608/c/90918.html

I have those in black and red. I ordered them a half-size up based on the reviews on Zappo's. They fit perfectly and are super comfortable. I ordered them from Naturalizer's site since the price was much cheaper there.

By the way, LOVE LOVE your blog, Angie! I've learned so much since I started reading your blog.

They are like slippers (especially when I put in my cushioning insoles). I bought them in Chicago last year in a Naturalizer store. They are black patent with cream piping - very Chanel. I’ve put loads of clients in them too. You know I have fussy feet and my feet are happy in these. They are 8-hour commuting shoes.

I was actually looking for a T-strap, Nicole. I think they are super cute and retro. But like I said, the strap would have to come up quite high, close to my ankle, to keep the shoe from slipping off. I'm going to go to DSW and see what they have tomorrow. I haven't had any luck there so far in my shoe shopping career, but maybe that will change.

My foot goes from being very wide to very narrow. Insoles would change the alignment, but they won't fill out the extra space. I like my Me Too mocs in terms of comfort, and they are much cuter than most shoes of the same type, but I really need some shoes that I can wear with a skirt. I assumed they were comfortable because of the style rather than the brand, but maybe I will try another style.

Hey Mayapple, if the issue is that flats don't stay on your feet securely, have you consider styles that are some kind of mix between flats and mary janes, meaning they look mostly like ballet flats but they have a strap that makes them stay on better. THose are real comfortable for running around in. Most styles are pretty sporty, but sometimes you can find less sporty ones. Here are few from Endless, just to illustrate the concept:
http://www.endless.com/Miss-Me.....B000NOCOQQ

How about a thong sandal? A shoe that velcros and buckles at the toe so that it can be adjusted? There HAS to be a stylish shoe that fits. My 6WW client wears that size for everything, and battles mostly in Winter when she has to enclose her foot. Wide strappy sandals are better because she can lodge her bunions between the straps (if that makes sense).

Try the range of ME TOO’s at Nordies when you are next in the area. You too Ana Elizabeth. If you can wear a regular 6 in heels, than your foot can’t be that wide, right? Aerosoles might work too. Do not give up!

ha, I just realized how whiny I sounded. I was writing that while my feet were still hurting so I guess I have an excuse.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is about slip-ons that causes this problem. I can wear Converse sneakers with no problem even though they're certainly not wide. My boots are all comfortable. What seems to set them apart from my dressier slip on shoes is that they actually stay securely on my foot. There is no opportunity for a boot or a lace-up shoe to just slide off, even if it is on the slightly bigger side (to accommodate my foot width). I'm not quite what the best solution is once it starts warming up. A fancier thong sandal might be okay, even if it's not my style, but I don't like leaving that much of my foot exposed on the streets of NY...eww....

I just need to find a style of shoe that stays on my foot!

Aww....that's awful, mayapple, I'm sorry. If only we could wear winter clothes all the time! I feel so unstylish in the summer. :(

Have you tried buying shoes that mostly fit your heel, putting a heel strip in them to make them fit better, and then taking them to a shoe doctor to have the front part stretched? This would probably only work on something that had a leather toe box, but if you have a pair of shoes that might be more comfortable if the toe box was just a *little* bigger, you might give this a try. Sorry I couldn't be more help. If I find something great, I'll be sure to let everyone know, for sure.

I actually haven't worn strappy shoes yet Angie. I really don't know what size I wear anymore. It doesn't seem to exist. I'm a 6WW (maybe even a 6WWW) in the front of my foot, and a 6R at the heel. The slippage causes my toes to buckle up to help the shoe stay on (bring on the hammertoes), or it gives me blisters. Heel inserts sometimes work, but not always.

I know shoes in my size exist, but I don't usually like them. They're too sporty or clownish. I like streamlined and dainty shoes. But I guess I don't have much choice, so no use being picky. I just feel really dumpy when I'm going out with my friends who are all perfectly comfortable in 4 inch stilettos. I'm 24 and I feel like I have the feet of a 70 year old!

I have a pair of Me Too moccasins. They're far from stylish but they got me through some tough times. I have tried Clarks as well, but the shoes were ridiculously long. If I went down a size it would probably be too narrow. I even tried some Sofft flats and not even that worked out. The problem with most shoes that claim to be wide is that they are actually regular, and their regular shoes are really narrow. If you look at the reviews of a lot of Naturalizer shoes on Zappos, so many of them say "felt narrower than marked." My feet are also happiest in the winter. For some reason I have no problem wearing regular width boots.

Becky, the shoes I tried were by David Tate and the style is "Spree." I didn't skimp on the price, which is very unfortunate actually, because I wore them out and now I have to keep them. I got them on Zappos.

I'm just really not sure what to look for in a shoe anymore. I can't wear heels or pointy toes and now it looks like I have to add ballet flats to that list, which were sort of a staple in my wardrobe, and one of my favorite kinds of shoes. It really does feel hopeless.

I have a similar problem to mayapple, in that the front of my foot is wider than my heel, which means I can't wear most "fun" shoes without problems. And straps? I'm with you Angie--forget them! Unless the strap is extremely soft, I can't wear them for more than 4 hours, and only on days when little walking is required (which is hardly ever). I hate shoe shopping.

I've had some luck with Clarks, Naturalizer, and Franco Sarto (limited styles). I also really like Sofft--they're expensive, but they really are the most comfortable shoes I've tried. My only complaint is that they tend to be more casual, they're not that structured (probably why they're so comfortable!).

Munros come in WW and Narrow. Their selections are therefore very small because their size ranges are deep. Take yourself off to Nordstrom for some experimentation. I wear regular width so I have never owned a pair of Munros, but my second hand experience of them has been very good.

Try Aerosloes too. They come in W. Converse comes in W too. So do Clarks. I have a client with a 6WW foot and we CAN find her shoes. Chances are high that they won’t come at a price though. Skimp on something else ladies, but look after those feet.

No, Angie, I haven't, though I've heard them recommended. Is the comfort and quality worth the price?
