Barbara Diane -- rural New England is pretty renowned for its mud! We don't have spring, we have "Mud Season". Lately, the snow has been gone by late April/early May; we just don't get as much as we used to and it doesn't hang around as long. But the mud is as bad as ever. This summer was actually quite dry, but I still didn't really break out summer shoes/sandals til July. The playgrounds and parking areas at the two schools where I work were just too squishy. Ankle boots are the best bet, or sneakers. If I were in an area with pavement it might be a different story, but around here the roads are mostly gravel and sidewalks are rare.

Jenn -- it's true, I never had a collection of at-home clothes til I had a kid. It's totally changed my habits and strategies.

OMG- your weather! Snowmelt and mud until/through summer solstice? I can't imagine. I'm very spoiled weather wise.

I think that having a functional at-home capsule that makes you feel great is especially important when you have small children. It’s just such a big part of your life!

Angie, probably no WIWs for this challenge -- I just can't keep up with daily photography. I don't have time in the mornings and often by the time I get home it's dark (I have rehearsals most nights) and the light is too poor.

Funnily enough, my at-home capsule is one of my most satisfying capsules because it is very tight and surprisingly cohesive. Everything gets nearly equal wear, and lots of it, and everything is super comfortable but practical (that means no drape-y tunics, bell sleeves, flared pants, etc -- all of which would be cute but not practical). And none of it is so precious that I'd weep if I lost or damaged it. Colours are more or less aligned with the rest of my wardrobe, but with a heavier dose of pink/blush. It is the perfect use for my band/graphic tees when they get too worn to wear out of the house: soft and sentimental. :)

My gear capsule is slightly less tight and cohesive than my at-home capsule, but only because I really like trying out new gear. If it works, it stays; if it doesn't I consign it (and use the credit to buy more gear, lol).

Style Fan, yes, I wear at least two, usually three outfits per day. You've totally identified my dominant colours -- although the pink is mostly represented in at-home wear. I tend to indulge my twee/kitschy side a bit more with my lounge wear, so cute prints that make me smile but which I'd never consider wearing out-and-about are perfect PJs or at-home wear.

FashIntern -- Yes, for me this challenge isn't about outfit creation or even documentation, but merely to get a sense of numbers and force myself back into a habit I abandoned a few months back. I'm writing down each item as I wear it in a notebook, and I'll probably go back and enter those numbers into my (somewhat dormant) tracking spreadsheet at the end of the month. I gave up on tracking over the summer because we were traveling a lot. It was a pain to keep a record, even though I was just wearing the same things over and over!

The linen blazer sees about 4 months of wear per year: June, July, August, September. The blush flats -- they're a very soft suede -- are best in dry weather, so they're really a high/late summer item. We have snowmelt followed by heinous mud right up through at least summer solstice most years, if not beyond.

Rachylou -- I do the same! All the loungewear I wore this week (with the exception of the t-shirts, of which I have perhaps a lifetime supply) will get washed and then worn again next week. I find I can wear lounge pants/shorts/hoodies for about three days before they get too grubby and need to be laundered.

Cindysmith -- It's okay, I slacked all summer! That's exactly why I'm doing the challenge, as a reset button on my summer laziness.

Janet -- I definitely have days where it's straight from PJs to gear and back to PJs. Nothing wrong with that!

Joy -- Yes, olive and navy is one of my go-to combos in early fall. It seems to reflect the environment. The grass is getting dry, the sun sets earlier, the leaves are on the verge of changing but haven't yet... I have to admit my summer wardrobe is pretty heavy on the darks, but my bright white items do start feeling a bit less relevant this time of year. I've never adhered to the "no white after Labor Day" rule but I do lean a bit darker as the days get shorter. And once it starts dipping below freezing at night I'll be reaching for reds and burgundies, which generally don't interest me when it's hot out. Funny, huh?

I can see why you said earlier that tracking showed you it’s ok to spend money on loungewear.

I like your way of reporting data—much less “peer into my life” than listing outfits.

Will the blush flats and linen blazer come out again in springtime?

Good job! My wear-at-home wear is a heavy category too — and a lot of it is ultra ultra casual. Like right now I’m wearing a pair of linen blend shorts that are barely a step above loungewear with a graphic tee from a friend’s restaurant. I could run out for an errand in this but not anywhere decent.

Right up there is my workout capsule. It’s the thing that makes me do laundry every week, more than anything else — I only have so many sports bras and workout shorts and socks. I have enough now to wear a fresh outfit every day for a week, which is good. This is why I’m tracking workout wear too — I use it every day, and some days like today, I go from workout wear to bum-around-the-house wear and that’s it.

This is so interesting. Loungewear looks like an important category for you. You wore a lot of dark neutral colors ( in which I include olive and navy). It seems that you are done with summer and ready to move into Autumn.

The week was a pretty even split between cool, fall-ish weather and sweltering, humid 90-degree weather. In total, I wore 36 items of clothes over the course of 7 days. That makes plain why a 30x30 challenge is, in fact a challenge!

Clearly my house-only clothes get the heaviest workout (there was only one day where it didn't cool down enough to put on a hoodie in the morning or evening), followed by gear, followed by a handful of items that I earmark as "seasonal imperatives" -- this week it was the blush flats and the linen blazer, which I probably will not wear once September is over. A lot of the items marked as "one wear" had already had a wear or two the week prior and spent most of the week keeping the laundry hamper company. Also, this gives you an interesting cross-section of my closet and drives home just how heavily I rely on Uniqlo for, um, everything.
