The bronze cardigan was certainly a good purchase. Such a lovely colour. A very versatile piece too.

Hi FashIntern, yes it has been a dress once when I first bought it, but I felt I was pulling it down at the back all evening. It has mostly had a narrower skinny pant like a ponte pant under, almost legging-like, and sometimes tall boots which make it feel more like a dress. I do still like that one.
"Long over lean" was a concept and name I came across from Sally of the blog Already Pretty. She used the concept a lot. I suspect I was trying to hide my "midsection" when I first started dressing like that. Alas, can't really be hidden. I have got used to it I suppose.

I’m not clear on “long over lean”, but in the two outfits you’ve posted, I think the first really needs longer pants, as in Sal’s recent post. The second, I agree, could be a dress. It’s cute. Would you ever wear it that way, with thick yarn tights? It’s hard for me to see exactly how long it is—the camera’s higher than the hemline and the skirt stands out from your legs a bit—so if that’s an inappropriate suggestion, forgive me.

You're right Bijou, I kind of imagined the longer tunics would hide all the middle thickening but the photos show they don't necessarily. So I'm leaning towards more hip lengths on tops. It's also just being rather over the silhouette after 8 years of it.
The pink heels are one of my few remaining fairly comfortable heels. So fear not, they are staying

These tops have served you well, so it is fine to say goodbye and embrace a new silhouette. I have been surprised as how much I prefer a shorter style of top on myself (photos really give me perspective on what is more flattering). Sometimes more coverage is not more flattering.... As long as you don't say goodbye to those fab pink heels in the photo above!

Hi Jenn, I did it a bit in summer with a shortsleeved mesh type top underneath sometimes. Maybe not in the very hottest parts of summer, but on many days that would be fine. I think I am not as happy with the proportions in summer with cropped pants rather than in winter with full length pants. Examples below.
More 2/3:1/3 in the winter example?

How interesting! Did you previously wear the long over lean look in spring/summer as well as fall/winter? For me, that’s been more of a cool weather silhouette.

It s funny how a feeling for a change of style gradually comes on isn’t it.Great that you can acknowledge your”debt”to much loved clothing but move on to pastures new.Dont ever lose your passion for fun and colour in your wardrobe though will you?

Pivoting off the September tracking challenge... but actually been feeling this coming on all year. I'm feeling a shift from elements of the "long over lean" I've been doing since at least 2010, which is not long after menopause and when my body changed/thickened up. For me that was on the slightly early side, before age 50.
Particularly, I want to move away from layering tops under tunics to be a bit more streamlined. So they may still be longer tops but hopefully clearly tops not like possible mini dress length.
In the first week I wore: jeans x2 (weekend), pewter pants x3 and olive snakeskin pants x2 ( work). Tops mostly hip length: lime/navy X1 and blue boho X1 weekend with cobalt x1, black merino x2, olive x2 work. Toppers were bronze cardi x4 and black jacket x3.
I had a dislike coming on for the bright pink layering top with floral or butterfly tunics. Too little girly for a 57 year old? They're going. See below.
Left to right: 2013 32 wears, 2012 26 wears, 2011 33 wears. Thanks to them for being pretty and previously loved xx
