Modcloth also carries several lighter colored oxfords in reasonable heel heights.  You might want to give them a look I am also leery of shoes that make me look like I have clown feet. Like an anchor. Hmmm. I also sometimes feel unbalanced in black shoes and boots because of my light hair, so I have started a collection of white boots and shoes. Next up on my list is the Converse hi ness shoe in white.  I also love metallic shoes! The light grey suede for bookending with a lower vamp for my larger foot looks so much more feminine, and yes, downright autumnal!  I never would have found those on my own and can't wait to try them!! Thank you! @Liz - I've always loved the idea/appeal of heeled oxfords too, and if I can find some with a lowish heel, I'm going to give them a shot as well.  Adore the feminine/masculine juxtaposition!  I can definitely see them with skirts or even bootcuts with PPL maybe?  @Annagybe, Aquamarine, and Debbie - I love the look of slipper flats too, especially printed ones!  I tried a pair or two on last year and on my larger feet they seemed clownish, but I'm guessing that I probably gave up way too easily (or wasn't fussy enough about them)!  I really like yours, Debbie, and Angie's printed ones from last year.  So much more sleek than the ones I tried.  Maybe it's something about the height of the vamp/cut there too? Hmmm...need to revisit these! @Aquamarine - I used to wear clogs, a lot, and loved their ease.  And I adore Frye.  But you also have me intrigued with idea of the ventilated or cutout ankle boots...and I'm smitten with the Free People/Jeffrey Campells in the light color! @Suz - you made me laugh!  But fair is fair, since though I've only been here a week I've already done the same on your WIW threads!  Even if our climates are opposite, though, I take away so much from your lead and find myself studying your photos to see how I can literally "lighten" them, weight/fabric wise.  To answer your questions, my hair is naturally strawberry/golden blond (though I've just started adding highlights to "blend" some stray greys), I have blue eyes, and very fair skin.  (The desert is NOT the place for me, let's just say!)  Like you, I too have narrow heels, though a wide toe box and high arch, so slip-ons can be hit or miss.  Kicking myself for not jumping on the Reports Marks bandwagon...I did buy some similar Steve Maddens, but they have more of a heel, more of an ankle gap, and have never really broken in.  I definitely think you're onto something with the animal print suggestion and that will be one of the first places I start, as well as the suede oxfords!  Thank you so much for your thoughtful and helpful reply! They provide more coverage than flats, so feel a bit more fall-like to me. I hear you loud and clear.  My answers are going to have to differ since our climates differ -- where you could wear sandals for most of the year, I could wear boots most of the year in my climate. But believe me, the option to wear boots, while nice in theory, isn't so nice when it comes to bookending light hair. Just try finding a pair of light boots in a style you like that fit.  Er...um...sorry, got sidetracked there. We were talking about you, right?  Okay. Questions.  1. How light is your hair? (when we are talking light) and what's your general colouring?  2. Do unlaced flats stay on your feet/ feel comfortable? (I ask because most flats styles are impossible for me -- and most pumps, too, for that matter -- because of my narrow heel.)  Some suggestions:  Slipper flats, as Anna said. They could work with pants and dresses. Look for a light taupe or an animal print.  Animal print in general might be a great transitional shoe.  Oxfords in light grey, taupe, sand, silver.  Lightweight booties. I have the Reports Marks bootie from several years ago (a knockoff of the Marant Dicker) in light taupe. It's a super transitional shoe -- not too hot, not too cold, and I can wear it without a sock -- which sounds like it might be good in your climate. And finally, style background:  I do alternate between skinny jeans and bootcuts, with the occasional skirt or dress thrown in, as soon as the weather allows.  I've learned, thanks to Angie and this wonderful forum, that the reason I love boots so much is because they balance out my IT shape.  Ditto for bootcuts.  I do though, struggle with my need to both balance my tall IT shape and yet not overpower but instead bookend my fair hair/coloring! This is so complicated!  As such, my only go-to closed-toe, transitional shoes at this point are white Cons and a pair of cognac Frye pointy-toed ballet flats for skinny jeans.  I do also have a pair of silver and black ballet flats, but seldom find myself reaching for them, since they don't hit that balance.  For skirts and dresses? Totally stuck there too!  I know one pair/style won't solve all of these dilemmas, but I'm willing to start anywhere!
