Yep, another option to consider is http://www.tumblr.com It doesn't come with comments automatically enabled, but there's an add-on for that. It also lets you cross-post to Facebook, if that's your kind of thing. And it's very easy to use, although not as full featured as Wordpress. I use it for book reviews and passing on funny little images I find, but people use it for every other type of blog under the sun.

But Wordpress.com would be my first choice. I like Marianna's suggestion of extending the name a bit to get something that's already free.

Curse those people who take the good domain names then never post anything! It's happened to me a few times

I use blogger and wordpress, but I found that wordpress can be more finicky about the file names as you upload them (for example, if you camera downloads photos as "xxx.JPG" than wordpress in my experiences won't accept them). But if you are going to use pictures from Flickr, than it shouldn't really matter either way. Another popular platform is tumblr, but I don't know much about it.
Good luck and I look forward to your blog!

How about adding another word to the end of Styleyes? I know it's not perfect, but your URL can be something like Styleyesme or Styleyesblog and then the tile can just be Styleyes.

Oh darn, it looks like that domain is taken too, Michelle. Hmm, I see what your problem is- I wouldn't want to use a z either, and you can't break up the words with a dash or anything, since the whole wordplay thing would be lost. You could make it styleyesblog or something? Hmm... I've got my thinking cap on.

Ele, the name I'm thinking of is Styleyes. I'm not hugely in favour of swapping out the s for a z, for instance, but I could think about it. Maybe I'll beg the owner of the wordpress domain to let me have it, since s/he isn't using it? :)
What would the resulting url be if I were to buy the domain? something along the lines of http://www.styleyes.com?

Oh, or consider just buying the domain of the name you like? It's only like $10 a year for the name, plus whatever your hosting package is. I use Wordpress to build my blog, but I don't own kitchenist.wordpress.com, for example.

One MILLION per cent Wordpress, Michelle. More user-friendly, more attractive templates and more adaptable code. I use Wordpress for my blogs, Angie uses Wordpress for YLF- it's definitely the most "professional" platform you can choose. Of course, that might not be what you're going for, but it would be my choice for you.

Keep in mind that you don't need your URL and your blog name to be the same. If you really want keep the name you like, consider just changing it up a bit for the address.

What's the name you're thinking of? Maybe we can help.

Awhile back I said I was considering starting a style-oriented blog of my own to tackle the issue from a blind perspective. I'm now 95 per cent sure I'm going to do it. I wanted to pick your brain as to what the best/most userfriendly blogging sites out there would be. I would automatically just go for Blogger or Wordpress, but the name I'm thinking of appears to be taken on both sites (by people who either haven't used the blog or have only made one test post, AAAAAAAAARGH)! If there are other sites that I'm not aware of, do let me know. If those two are the best, I'll have to sacrifice the name and find something else.
