That’s cool that Zalando is doing a buyback/resale program. I’m glad to see that becoming more common among retailers.

I usually sells shoes in brand-specific or interest-specific groups on FB (targeted buyer pool = quicker sales and slightly higher prices), but I’ve sold a bunch on Poshmark too. On Poshmark, I’ve earned between $20 - $40 dollars for lightly to moderately worn shoes with MSRPs from $100 - $200. (Shoe mistakes are expensive! )

There are no brand restrictions on Poshmark, but I have no idea how active Poshmark is in the EU or what their international shipping policies are. If you decide to sell, it might be best to list them in the spring; sandals and sneakers move pretty slow this time of year IME.

Ginger, Melanie, and other who’ve sold or shopped on Poshmark—are they likely to accept these brands? The sneakers are S Oliver, a German clothing brand. The sandals are Ecco.

Poshmark is definitely the way to go. Really easy to list and sell.

I have sold shoes on eBay; I found I got a quarter of the original sale price, but I was selling known brands with followings, like Stuart Weitzman. We used to list almost everything from our twice yearly closet clean outs and one thing would sell a week. We mailed them to the recipient. We took down the store before the pandemic when eBay wanted a whole bunch of PII, and have instead been donating in a lower income area. In our home town, the donations get sorted and just a few designer pieces go to the actual resale store. In the lower income area almost everything gets resold.

CarolS, I sold shoes in 2019. This fall I sold a couple of jackets. They were sold from my home after girls tried them on my porch. So, everything was done outside, everyone wore a mask and we kept a distance from each other.

CarolS, those are such good questions!

Listening to replies here, I’ve been thinking I should put them on eBay for a fixed price &/or on the sites RoseandJoan mentioned (I’m not on Facebook), but maybe closer to spring, as Kkards mentioned. I’m inclined to set a meeting place near where we live, because I don’t want to need to mail them, but I hadn’t even thought of people trying them on.

Suntiger, do you know that your donated shoes get used? There are street corner drop off boxes for used shoes here; they are frequently stuffed & overflowing.

Irina, when selling on FB Marketplace, do you let people come to your home to pick up? Do you let them try on? I have a pair of winter boots I should sell, but I'm so clued out about the ins and outs!

I sold a few pairs through Facebook Marketplace. Gently used, from known, mid range brands. I priced them @ 50% of the original price and sold close to 40%.

If they are truely hardly wore and really look like new, I’d take them to a local consignment/resale job. Mine will pay 40% of their expected sale price If you want cash, or 50% if you will take a store credit. Since you’ve talked about buying more pre loved clothing that might be a better way to go
i have sold a number of shoes to my local 2nd hand store, I’ve had good luck with some, and they have flat out said no to many. Overall at least in my city the ‘hipper’ the brand the better the chance of reselling, even if that particular pair is more worn than another pair. Also stores in my city will not take out of season items. So you might need to hold on to the sandals until spring

These are less-than-stellar purchases I made this year. The green shoes have adequate padding for someone who drives everywhere, but walking just over a mile in them hurt my spine, so they aren’t for me. The sandals are better. I’m on the fence about them. My heels slip off the sides; I’m much more happier wearing other sandals I’ve purchased since, but might wear these sometimes. Both are in pretty new shape.

I’ve just submitted photos of them to Zalandos reselling program, and have been offered about $3 for the green shoes and $10 for the sandals. I paid around 40 for each of them.

Is this the best way to go with resale? I’m not looking to make tons of money with two pairs of shoes, obviously, but it irks me that I couldn’t return the sneakers because in order to find out how poorly they made, I had to wear them, and now the same place is offering me less than 10% what I paid them.

Have you resold shoes? Where, and how did it go?
