Up until last year, I never wore ballet flats because I could not find any that didn't "eat" my heel; one block and I had blisters at the back of ankles. I have no idea how many brands I tried, bought, and had to donate or sell. It was miserable.

My complete gamechanger was Frye. I have two pairs of their Carson ballet flats and they are 100% amazing. I can go 10 hours in the things, and they look great.

Definitely a higher price point, but for me, having two pairs of flats I actually wear rather than 7 pairs I can't touch was worth. They have some super cute point toe flats too if you're looking to follow that trend, and simple unembellished staples as well as ones with leather bows and things.

I would encourage you to at least order a pair from Zappos with the free fast shipping and returns and see how much you love them. :-)

Happy hunting!

I'll add in a recommendation for Franco Sarto. I've worn them on and off for the past twelve years. That brand always impresses me with its quality and comfort. I was wearing a new pair of Franco Sarto pumps a few weeks ago and one of my friends, who is exclusively a discount shopper, upon hearing they were Franco Sarto, said, "Love that brand! Their shoes are always way more comfortable than they seem like they should be!"

LOL at my self now! Went back to Emily's thread and saw that I rhapsodized over Franco Sarto there too. Apparently, I really like them.

I asked about keeping ballet flats in good shape a while ago and got some really good answers re: trusted brands and care:

Hello YLF-ers! I am a very shoe-ignorant lady seeking advice. I've been wearing thrifted or cheapo flats for a very long time, and the bad quality and ouchy fit is starting to wear me down. What advice would you give to someone new to shopping for decent-quality shoes? What brands would you suggest?

I haven't been impressed by the durability of the Naturalizer and outlet Nine West shoes I've picked up on sale, but I've heard positive things about Clarks, Sofft, and Frye flats. I think I can spend up to about $120, and I'm willing to comb eBay or wait for sales.

I have the vague idea that I would prefer leather and that I don't want any fussy embellishments-- just dead simple ballet flats. Is this asking for the moon, or do the sort of shoes I'm describing really exist? :)

I realize this isn't much to go on, but I would love to hear any advice you might have. Thank you very much!
