My take is that you want a classic sneaker "look," to which a white sole is key. For Greyscale, I could see the black sole working really well, because it goes with her edgy all-black (or mostly black) style. On her, it will not look like part of a work uniform; it will look like part of her edge. <br />I'm looking forward to a new pair of sneaks this spring/summer, too. I bought the white Eccos here, and I have them in my possession already. I haven't worn them yet, though, as I just ordered the blush high-tops to compare and see which ones I will like better with my wardrobe. I must say the low-top Eccos feel heavenly, and I haven't been able to wear Eccos in a long time; I've been in between sizes. As Robin said, I like a white sole to break up the heaviness of the black, but that is a personal preference.
