Janet, I love the loft tanks because the ribbing is very fine. They can be dressed up much better than a lot of options out there (which look more like colored "wife beaters")- I wear them with pencil skirts and a cardi or blazer all the time, and also wear them as camis under other tops and dresses. http://www.anntaylorloft.com/c.....pe=Regular

However, I haven't had a much luck with loft's short sleeved tees. They are more cap sleeve length (at least on my broader shoulders), and have a lot of pulling through the bust and shoulders (see picture). Perhaps they are better on other body types, but they are not the best on my hourglass/IT body. Unfortunately, this is true of both the v necks and the scoop necks (I own 2 of each...). http://www.anntaylorloft.com/c.....pe=Regular and http://www.anntaylorloft.com/c.....pe=Regular

I'm surprised to hear they describe the J.Crew Perfect Tees as ribbed -- they don't seem ribbed to me -- they are pretty smooth and the fabric is not too thick and not too thin : )

April, the ribbing is very fine. If you look at the photos of me in the shirts, particularly the yellow, you can maybe see a little bit of ribbing if you squint (ignore the fact that I am wearing a lace bra underneath the shirt). And I'm pretty busty, but the ribs don't pull or stretch or anything like that. It is far finer than the ribbing on the J. Crew tank tops, if you have ever tried those.

I stumbled upon a brand called "modbod" a while back at Costco and I saw them there the other day as well. I bought a 2 pack of long sleeve tees and they were a great basic tee for me this winter. Nothing fancy, but the fabric is a great quality, nice and stretchy and not too thin at all. they are also nice and long.

http://www.themodbod.com/produ.....V-Neck-Tee

and I agree with you April... not all knits are created equal, and sometimes the really cheap ones are not worth even 2 cents.

I saw some in Ann Taylor Loft a little while back that looked promising. There was also a rack of decent-looking ones in Nordstrom Rack, but I can't recall the brand.

I just ordered some James Perse tees that I found on sale -- I think they tend to be a little on the thin side, but I'll let you know how they work out.

There are some good suggestions here -- thank you!

A question about the J Crew perfect-fit -- the description says the fabric has extra-fine ribs. I usually avoid rib knits because of their tendency to be extremely "enboobening. "(I learned that word from Beth.) :)

I'm not particularly busty, but a rib knit can certainly make me look like I am.

Another vote for the JCrew perfect tees! I love the sleeve length, and the quality is great! I'm 5'3" 110lbs 30DD with broader shoulders (hourglass with IT tendencies) and I wear a small in those shirts (and most JCrew tops).

But stay away from their tissue tees...

I wear a small in the J. Crew shirts, and I am 5'1, generally wear a size four, and wear a 32DD/DDD bra. I do like my tee-shirts to fit me snugly. I am not broad-shouldered. You might find that the v-neck is wide if you are narrow in the shoulder--I actually like the width of the v--even though it is wide, it doesn't dip very low. If you have a J. Crew store nearby, this is an item that they always seem to carry in the store.

I have attached two photos of me in one of the shirts, to give you an idea. I apologize for the weird poses and for the shirt being a little askew in the orange tee-shirt--I was halfway through making a couple of necklaces and was taking photos of my progress to figure out the best way to proceed.

Since you're an XS, I would recommend Uniqlo. I was impressed by the quality of their t-shirt fabric last year. Their knits are slim fitting and cut for a medium to long torso.

I'm still eking out wear from my old AT and ATL tees from 2-3 years ago. I used to buy most of my tees from the AT outlet stores and I think they were a heavier weight than what's available in the regular stores, strangely enough.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I've been getting my tee's from Victoria Secret. The "daily tees" are a great weight, and they come in a whole bunch of good colors. You can't beat the price. Unfortunately, they don't sell a v-neck, only a scoop (along with the crew)

I had it in white, but that only lasted one season before getting pitted out. I also own it in white and turquoise in long sleeves. None of the colors I own are currently available but there are some good options.

I bought two 3/4 sleeve, V-neck tees from Amber Sun last winter, too. They are a nice weight and not too sheer, a problem I am finding with tees this summer. The V-neck is fairly modest, so no problems with plunging necklines.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/am.....ltback=301

I would say it runs a little big compared to brands like BR or Gap. It is more regular t-shirt skimming than layering t-shirt bodycon, if that makes any sense. Not quite Land's End, but in that direction.

You're probably an XS depending on how you like your fit. It is a nice mid-weight and did not pill, shrink much or lose color, so excellent quality.

I hear you, NK.

And while I also agree in principle with the rule that there's no point in paying a lot for knits, I'm going to amend that rule slightly: there *is* a point to paying more than the absolute minimum.

I have an assortment of Ann Taylor tees from several years ago that are a more substantial knit and that have held up very well over at least two summers, after being worn endlessly. (I don't work in the summer, and some days I'm just at home doing domestic chores.)

These are the ones that are too thin and too plunging for my taste: http://www.express.com/best-lo...../index.pro

I'm on the lookout as well. Usually by this time of year I've already stocked up, but I haven't found what I'm looking for yet.

Why must so many of the tees right now be so sheer that you have to wear something underneath? What's the point of that?

This is one of my most-hated items to search for in summer. I also can't wear anything too clingy in the belly area! Look forward to some solutions.

Here are my qualifications:

1. Can't have a ridiculously plunging neckline that requires a cami when it's 98 degrees.

2. Can't be so thin that it's always wrinkled (hello, Express).

3. No crewnecks.

4. A good assortment of color choices would also be nice.

Anyone hit upon any great ones? I ordered a couple of these while they're on sale. They haven't arrived yet, but I'm trying to plan ahead for what seems like inevitable disappointment.
