Quite irrational. Not remotely practical.</p> <p>But it’s not simply patriarchal. When you think about it, it’s amazing that it could be implemented. It shows you also what other cultures think - or don’t think - about the individualism so prized in Western cultures, and none so much as the US. One of my uncles traveled to China when it first opened up. He tried to give someone a postcard in a factory they were taken to on a tour. The worker had to go to the office to ask permission to receive it. He went not to ask just a manager, but a government official stationed in the factory. To ban fashionable eyewear on&nbsp;women in the workplace is not in keeping with how style&nbsp;conscious the&nbsp;country is.
