I also use a tripod in combination with a self timer and I think it really helps. My background is my closet, it's the only plain background I have in my flat. But even with all this I sometimes end up with the same problem you had above! My camera has a setting where it does 3 consecutive shots on the self-timer, which helps a bit with weird faces and things, although it does not solve the crooked clothing problem. For some reason my biggest problem seems to be that my necklaces like to migrate to one side? I don't really think they do that IRL, so I don't know why they're always crooked in my photos. Oh, and since Angie and others express a strong preference for seeing faces in WIW photos, I always feel like I have to get a photo where my face looks good too! </p> <p>I always take my photos in the same spot, so my camera angle, position, and focus are pretty standard, and I usually take them in the morning so the lighting is OK. I own a tripod and a camera and have lots of natural light coming into my apartment, yet my photos are dark and dingy with atleast 2 unwanted items sticking into the picture (broom, shoe etc) and my home is pretty organized if you're actually in it! On top of all this, I prefer to keep my face blurry so that makes the photo even more drab! But it's a cosy NY apt and my photos are fated to have cluttered looking spaces and I'm convincing myself while typing this!
