Newer browser versions are checking for and/or insisting on more security than older ones did, forcing websites to upgrade to https (encrypted http) and buy digital certificates from third parties or risk users seeing those errors or maybe not being able to connect at all. The sites did not become less secure or hacked in some way, the standards just got higher.

That said, I work on this stuff every day. I would never buy from or give info to an insecure site, but if I’m just reading it I’m not too worried. There is very little risk there. And a lot of bigger companies don’t quite have the new standards all figured out, so I don’t expect smaller bloggers to be on top of it.

It could be that you have an “old” computer (more than 6 years old). Mine has said that it no longer can support security.

Hi, just wanted to pop in and let you know that unefemme.net IS secure. You may have seen a warning last week when I was migrating to a new hosting service, but everything should be back to normal now, and secure. Thanks!

Peri, I think it's because they don't have completely up-to-date infrastructure that includes protective factors. People who run blogs are being encouraged to update/upgrade to newer systems to make their sites secure. I should know...my own site is still insecure (eek!). I need to look into it.

Here's an explanation: https://www.digicert.com/blog/.....hat-to-do/

I'm just wondering what is making them insecure? They are just blogs like YLF, not selling anything and not asking for any info. Three that I've followed for years are now suddenly marked insecure...it's confusing. Plus, I like these blogs, hate to stop following them. Guess I will have to if that is the wisdom though, tech non-wizard that I am.

Personally, I am VERY careful about that. I don't visit insecure sites at all. I NEVER buy from small sites either. It's not worth the risk. I never click on foreign links. Delete things I don't know about, immediately. And if I notice anything remotely weird, I ask Greg.

Asking as a tech dummy. I don't think this belongs under technical support because it isn't really about this website, but about many. I could be wrong about that!

Some of the sites I visit often have that little lock symbol, as this one does. Some say "not secure", for example une femme dot net (don't want to link it in case there really is something wrong). It isn't about ads exactly, because some of the lock symbol ones still have ads.

Is there something wrong with the not secure ones? Several of my daily sites are listing that now and I just noticed it last week. Thanks for the education if you can help this dummy!
