She's immunocompromised and stayed on the phone for two hours to get her appointment. So much has opened up in that town! I hope her appointment doesn't get cancelled. </p> <p>Quite a few of DD's African American girlfriends don't want to get vaccinated, and I get it; AAs, particularly women, have been treated extremely poorly by the medical establishment. Mr. M. pointed out that Walgreen's and CVS have their headquarters in the area, and most have had their shots at the local drugstore.&nbsp;</p> <p>What a stressful year this has been. On the positive side, I have a nice collections of earrings now--as if I didn't have enough before. I got a call just before they closed on the Friday after my birthday, scheduling me for Monday morning. Thank heaven that wasn't cancelled. I felt like absolute garbage yesterday after getting my shot Monday, but am feeling much better today.<br /> I'm planning to start LIVING again after my 2 week period has passed. I was surprised because generally my county seems to be in a mess but they came through with Covid 19 vaccines. After many efforts, we had an appointment for our first dose on January 23 in Dublin, CA, a city 40 miles from here. All went well. We had an appointment for the second dose on February 20.</p> <p>On Feb 19 we got a call that the appointment was cancelled due to lack of supplies. I was so upset that when Mr. Maven went out to get groceries, he brought home a bouquet of flowers for me. We got a call 2 days later that we had a second appointment on March 6. Early in the first week of March another cancellation call. 92,000 doses had not arrived for our provider in our county. This time we didn't get a second call back.&nbsp;</p> <p>Mr. Maven spent several hours trying to find another source of that second dose. The newspaper announced that it was no longer necessary to go to your health care provider to get a shot and the county was providing vaccinations. We got an appointment at Levi's Stadium mid-week. Not so bad, we could have dinner at In 'n Out after. Well, after getting there on time, going through 3 checkpoints, parking, and walking to the security checkpoint where they checked our bag and walking through the metal detectors, we were directed to the appropriate gate. When we arrived, the gatekeeper checked our vaccination cards. Oops! the nice woman form the county who had arranged our appointment on a long phone call had made a mistake. We had Moderna. Levi's only did Pfizer.&nbsp;</p> <p>She gave us instructions to another place nearby. We went there, and it was the vaccine location of our provider, shut down because of lack of supplies. After looking for an alternative, and arguing a lot, we went to In 'n Out and had the most delicious cheeseburgers with onion--well, at least for this year. (We have a long history with In 'n Out."</p> <p>The next day we tried again. The county referred us to the Fairgrounds, who did Moderna. They had nothing and said we had to get the 2nd dose where we got the first. Our health care provider had no appointments. We could go stand in line at a place a couple of miles north of us, but we decided to wait.&nbsp;</p> <p>If you are still here, there is good news at the end. We eventually got a call and an appointment in Dublin Sunday afternoon. I got a call that morning and they told me they had morning appointments. By then Mr. M had Zoom calls planned, but after we talked it over we decided to get into the car and drive to Dublin. We were 2 1/2 hours early but we went right in. The place was nearly empty, maybe another half dozen patients there. We got the vaccines and headed home. 2 hour round trip. It was sad to see it so empty.</p> <p>When I walked out after getting my shot I had such a feeling of exhilaration. Two more weeks! I will be close to living a "normal" life again.&nbsp;</p> <p>Other than a sore arm I had no symptoms from the first shot. This time I had a low fever, a very sore arm, and felt queasy. Today it's been more than 48 hours and I feel fine.</p> <p>To celebrate the occasion, the wisteria began to open its blossoms!&nbsp; </p>
