Thank you annagybe and k for the suggestions. We ended up just wandering around and ended up at Kells down at the Market across the alley from The Pink Door. It's an Irish restaurant/pub. Not quite what I had in mind but you know how it is when you're with a group - plus the guys got to watch the game. :) It was a fun place though; nice and laid back, decent if not exciting food. Great place to people watch.

I second the Brooklyn. My hubby and I eat there almost every time we come to Seattle. They have great oyster pairings, including oysters and beer and oysters and local vodka (my favorite!). We've even had some lovely meals at the Brooklyn, sitting in the bar. Wild Ginger isn't a favorite of mine. I feel like they haven't changed much in the last 15 years and what was innovative is getting a little routine. Still, it is very respectable and offers lots of choices. It has been a while, but I liked Dahlia Lounge too. Lola, by the same chef, is great. Tom Douglas won an outstanding restaurateur James Beard award not long ago. (ETA: I'm not a Seattlite, but I'm a dedicated foodie and frequent Seattle visitor.)

Do Happy Hour at the Brooklyn. They have fresh oysters for $1.50 a piece.

Wild Ginger is on my list too. The crowd we're going with tends to not be very adventurous so I always go armed with a list of good places. I am not going to be in downtown Seattle and "settle" for steak and potatoes!!

We ate there on my 40th b-day trip. BF actually didn't care for his fish, but I think it was more a taste preference thing than actual quality or anything like that.
I was quite surprised at how good my food was atop the Space Needle at Sky City restaurant. Hmm, where else did we go? Blue Acre was a great lunch. Serious Pie was super fun for something different - I mean, potatoes on a pizza? What else, the Wild Ginger in the Triple Door was too much fun because you are having courses during live music venues. Decent wine, too, which matters to me I remember we hit up Etta's for lunch but don't remember if it was a hit or just okay. I do recall that the BF never got to a Top Pot donut much as he really, really wanted to.
I can't remember the rest, but Seattle is a foodie haven and even 'bad' restaurants are likely to be better than most places you'd find in suburbia.

Thanks Anna. I had thought of them but had read mixed reviews on line. With your recommendation they'll go to the top of my list.

Steelhead Diner. It's about a block from Pike Place Market on First and Pine.

http://www.steelheaddiner.com/

Great thing about their menu is that they offer everything from sandwiches to full blown entrees.
Their razor clam chowder is amazing.

Every year DH and I and a group of friends charter a bus and drive over to Seattle for the weekend (about a 4 hour drive). The girls spend Saturday shopping downtown and then we meet up with the guys for dinner. Sunday we all go to a Mariner's game (unless I sneak away to do more shopping). Every year we try to pick someplace fun and different for dinner; anything from fancy, fancy to eclectic hole-in-the-wall. So I thought I'd try for some recommendations from you Seattle-ites. Preferably something seafood oriented or ethnic and walking distance from downtown.

Thanks!!
