Thanks all! So many great suggestions here. I am an avid pre-planner and like to flag potential destinations while logged into Google maps. Then when I'm wandering I can pull up my map and wander generally in the direction of pre-vetted spots :)

I'll be in a hotel downtown and will definitely pack heavy tights to go with my boots if I bring a dress (there will some evening receptions and an excuse to gussy up, as well as shuttles making the traveling easier). I'll keep an eye on the forecast and consider a heavier coat - or layer a fleece under my trench.

Emily K and cherylm - thanks for the great tips, you've given me so much to mull over!

Angie - Sorry to miss you!! Your dear dad is lucky to have you!

As long as you plan for wet weather, and get on with it - you'll have a fab time.

I will probably just miss you in this week. Blast. I'm heading back to see my Dad.

There is a lovely shoe and clothing place in Pioneer Square called Clementines. If you are in the area it's worth a look....along with a bite to eat at London Plane.

November is one of our worst weather months. I would plan for wind and rain. It’s normally not that cold in November but that also depends on what you consider cold. Umbrella’s are useless in windy rain, bring a coat with a hood.
Nordstrom flagship for sure is a worthy stop. Go to the Hermès department on the main floor and go inside the art piece made of Hermès scarfs and look up. Great place to take a selfie in the mirror on the ceiling.
The Starbucks Roaster is worth the journey, also near there is a fun local shop Glasswings that is worth a visit if you like edgier oversized clothes. They also try to have jeans that aren’t your typical brands.
If you are staying downtown the bus serves Capitol Hill pretty well - go to Elliott Bay books and window shop at Totokaelo next door.

Where is the conference? I'd consider trousers/pants more than skirts/dresses if I was you. Conference rooms can be chilly and November in Seattle usually means rain and wind. It's not horrible, but not short skirt weather unless you are wearing warm tights with boots.

Are you mostly seeking to shop for clothing?

One thing about Seattle is that there are a lot of neighborhoods--each having its own character. Some of the main ones are: Fremont, Ballard*, Capitol Hill and (closer in) Belltown. Researching these names may give you some idea of which you'd like to visit (in addition to downtown, of course). The first few times I came to Seattle as a tourist, I just kept getting stuck in the downtown, unsure of what else there was to find. (With the exception of Belltown, these are not reachable on foot.)

*Ballard has one of the best farmers markets around--it happens on Sunday and all the little shops and restaurants that line the street are open. Also, I really (really, really, really) like Asadero Mesquite restaurant in Ballard. It serves all variations on carne asada and I think it's the rib eye steak that I like the best.

I live near an outdoor, strolling mall called University Village. The shops are typical yuppie stuff (BR, J Crew, Madewell, GAP, Aritzia, Joie, Eileen Fisher etc.) but the setting is pretty, with engaging statuary and flower baskets. https://uvillage.com U Village is reachable by light rail with a walk of about half a mile(?) past Husky Stadium to the mall. Yummy restaurants, there, too--I like BaBar (Vietnamese), Din Tai Fung (Noodles), and the BBQ Pulled Pork Pizza @ Elemental Pizza Pi

As far as food and nightlife goes, I recently discovered the Starbucks Roastery out on the Pike/Pine corridor--so pretty (especially at night with the light twinkling on all the warm copper fittings.) http://roastery.starbucks.com This area has recently undergone some gentrification and is home to quite a few yummy restaurants.

Re: outfits--we do not get a lot of sideways rain, but I think shorter skirts will be too cold and bare for outdoors wear at this time of year. And you may want to pack a puffy to layer under your trench.

What fun! If I were visiting Seattle, I would surely want to visit the flagship store. You have beautiful clothes so I think I wouldn't give much thought to buying anything else to take and spend your time and money shopping in Seattle!

I'm excited to visit Seattle the second week of November! I'll be at a conference the first half of the week, and have tacked on a few extra days to explore the city before heading back to the East Coast.

I have a pretty good idea of what I'll need to pack for the conference (rough collection below, not presenting, just attending and mingling), and am thinking it might be a chance to leave some room in my suitcase and round out my autumn shopping. In addition to the Nordie's flagship which I will surely visit, are there any specific shopping destinations (chains and local alike) I should check out? My budget isn't huge but I also don't mind window shopping. I won't have a car but love sightseeing on foot.

Maybe I'll post something Off Topic about restaurant suggestions, too...
