You won't look foolish.

You might feel foolish. The first few times.

When it comes to wearing white in seasons other than spring and summer, and especially if you are just dipping your toes into the look, I find it works best when you pair it with a neutral like taupe, grey, tan, cognac. You can add pieces in traditional "autumnal" colours (whichever ones you like and wear -- burgundy, gold, orange, plums, for example.)

As for Breton stripes, I wear them all year round, but I wear them differently. In summer, I might wear a Breton sweater in the evening with white shorts. In fall, I might pair a gold/ plum scarf with it and wear it with jeans and taupe booties. In the winter, I would layer over it with a peacoat and I'd have on dark booties or boots. In spring, I might layer it over an orchid shirt.

Cobalt can also look great all year. Having said that, I've put away a few of my own cobalt and bright Dutch blue pieces for the season. Not because of the colour, however. Because of the fabrication. If something is too lightweight I won't wear it in my colder months. I also put away my cobalt bag because it doesn't look all that great with my winter and fall jackets and coats.

I think the rules have relaxed a lot. And this may not help, but "seasonally appropraite" is different for everyone. I live in a warm area, so while some fabbers are pulling out the boots and winter coats. I'm still in short sleeve tops and shorts because it's still in the 80s F here. Personally, I don't wear most autumn colors because they don't flatter me like winter or summer colors. I'd dress the way that makes you happy, keeping temperatures in mind. :D

And don't beat yourself up over trying to figure out what works for you. I don't have a "fashion gene" either, but I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy putting clothes, accessories and how to put it together, I don't think I would have ever found (much less joined) the site. And never worry about feeling qualified to give your opinion on an outfit. I know I love to get feedback about what works and what doesn't. A great example is today. I felt like something was off, and Ceit and talific were able to help me figure out what it was. And if you post and ask for suggestions/feedback, most people are happy to give it.

Most of the time I am not knowledgedable or articulate enough to give advice about how/why to wear clothes, but I like to participate and mostly comment when I like an outfit or clothing item.

So I will not give you advice on those pieces you have, but personally I look forward to wearing my white jeans this autumn and possibly winter, too!

I've been participating in this forum for two years now and have learned a lot, but still not where I want to be. Specifically, confident in my wardrobe selections and style.
I read a lot (not all) of the posts and all of Angie's articles.
I even purchase many of the items showcased here.
I don't comment on the WIW's since I'm not qualified to give anyone fashion advice.
I don't post any pics of myself, as yet; however, that would probably help me move forward with my fashion sense.
But for now: Some of you fabbers are so smart and I admire your ease at styling your pieces!
I surely didn't get the "fashion gene" -- it doesn't come easy/natural for me ...
For example, now that the season change is here, I went through my closet to put spring/summer stuff out of sight, and get out the autumn/winter things.
I think it was recently on the forum that white jeans are acceptable year round; and, Angie posted a capsule for the cooler season with a Breton stripe tee; and someone else was advised to wear a black and cream striped blazer this fall. In my mind, all these looks say "spring."
I have all these pieces, including some cobalt blue jeans (straight leg).
Is it okay to wear them year round or will I look foolish?
It's hard to retrain my old-school thinking about which colors, patterns, stripes, etc. are seasonally appropriate.
