No I don't because I don't go in the sun so my skin tone is consistently pale.

I can't say I change colours based on being tan or pale, because the same colours seem to suit me regardless. I try not to get much of a tan these days anyway, and even back when I was younger, the tan was never that dark. I'm of English/Scandinavian descent, so a dark tan is really not possible for me. My freckles would get more pronounced, and my skin looked shiny and healthy, which of course doctors freak out about now and tell you that the healthy glow is in fact EVIL SKIN DAMAGE FROM HELL.

I do wear different colours in the fall, though, mainly because there are certain colours that seem to "go" with the season -- like olive and burgundy. I can't bring myself to wear those colours in the spring or summer, even though I love them and they love me back. It just doesn't seem right!

Despite obsessive sunscreen use, big hat wearing and so on my skin gets darker in a second. There are certain yellow colors I can wear better in the summer and white is more striking too.

I get color very quickly too, despite sunscreen. I notice a big difference in the amount of brightness I can handle. Very bright, clear colors look better on me now...whereas a light grey would absolutely wash me out. I'm paler in the winter and can wear greys and taupes much more easily. I have to be careful when thrifting "out of season" for this reason.

Noooooot really. There are a few colors i pull off better than others when i am not....winter white but i try not to change color too much simply because the foundation i love using in the summer (for when i need to be "done" otherwise i just slap on some tinted moisturizer) is pricey and i can't afford to keep buying new shades!

Thanks for asking this Una. This week I've been looking at myself wondering what was wrong that none of my number one colours worked and thinking it was a aging skin tone/colour change issue. Maybe it's the sun... Who would have guessed!

My male cousins from India have always bemoaned living in a hot country where women cover up and avoid the sun. "Why can't India be more like Brazil?" seems to be their motto.

I don't really tan so I am pale pretty much all year OK I do actually get more "gold" in my skin in the summer, so it does limit the cooler shades I can wear a bit. Which works well with my not wearing as much black in summer thing; white and gray work nicely with my warmer-than-usual tone, and the black looks great with my super-pale-but-rather-neutral tone in the winter.

Manidipa, whenever I lie out in the sun, I think of the horror my aunts would feel - in India, when I sun out on the balcony, they come out and stand over me with an umbrella! They think my unhealthy pallor is lovely, of course, and can't understand why I bask like a gecko when I visit.

I do! I already notice that some of my reds look off with my skin tone at the moment. Like you, I darken very easily, even with lots of sunblock, and even when wearing a hat! However, I do everything I can to try to mitigate the effect, since it irritates me to try and juggle a new set of colors.

Yep! Mysteriously I find it a lot easier to wear black in winter and white in summer (helpful too I guess). Yellow-er tones get harder to pull off, as do pastels as spring-summer get on --- have to be careful to go bluer in the reds and pinks just now, though I can still manage turquoise and some shades of teal!

Not really, because I don't (and really can't) tan. I can burn but definitely do not want to! But I do color my hair red because it works with my pasty skin and makes it look like I have a little more pigment than I actually do.

I do, a little bit, Una. Even though I don't spend much time in the sun and do try to wear sunscreen (which I hate with a passion - yuck) I still get some colour. And that means I can wear slightly stronger, more intense versions of some of the colours that already suit me, and I can also "get away with" some purer, cleaner "spring-like" colours at this time of year, like a bright aqua or light turquoise.

Let's see some pics! We've missed your WIWs!

I have come back from vacation about as dark as I get, even with 50 SPF sunscreen! I love the color and the infusion of Vitamin D (so lacking in my life), and all my bright colors look so much better on me! I wish I could have this summer glow all the time...

In my case, the change is quite extreme, since I go from deathly pale (for me) to deep coffee very quickly in the sun. This makes me think it is not natural to live with so little sunlight here!

Do you change your colors seasonally based on being tan or pale?
