I mostly switch too, since my winter and summer are drastically different and my closet is tiny. Ideally I'd have a walk in with one side for summer and the other winter, then coats and shoes in a seperate closet!

I have 100yr old closets too - built for people with two sets of clothing and Sunday best. The kind that originally had hooks on the walls. I do this. It’s an excavation project otherwise. You spaces look good! Mine still are crammed to the gills.

What Nemosmom said ... yay for switches, as long as you tailor them to the reality of your climate, which can be annoyingly different from the fashion seasons.

I love how much fun you are having with your wardrobe CS ... your posts are so energizing!

Looks great! I like to switch my sweaters to a higher shelf and bring down my lighter tops for the summer.

I do this too....I actually do it four times a year and it works. It helps me evaluate pieces. Your closet looks great too chewyspaghetti!!

I do it (Southern hemisphere) in September/October taking out cold winter clothes and bringing in some spring pieces, then again in November bringing in high summer clothing, and then in March, and again in May. But 50% of my clothing crosses all seasons so the tweaks are not major.

Yay! I have found it helps me get more wear out of the few things in my closet that aren't trans-seasonal. Having been front and center helps me keep them front of mind when the season is right.

Looks good!! I am also finding so much logic in hanging things, putting them out so I can see them, feel them. It is like having ones own private fashion store! "Ooh, what do I want to wear today? That is all available to me, seasonally current and in my exact size?"

Yes to seasonal switches! Super smart to have things where you can immediately get to them and organized in a way that not only makes sense but takes less effort!

I had a recent epiphany that although I live in a 4-season climate, the weather of those seasons didn’t match the way I organized things. I was grouping spring with summer and fall with winter, when reality is spring here is cold like winter, and fall is warmer, like summer. I don’t wear short sleeves in spring, even with a jacket, so I pulled every thing out and did a complete re-org. It feels sooooo much better!

It does make a lot of sense, doesn't it?

I actually have gotten back to a placer where most of my wardrobe -- all four seasons -- is in one closet now. The exception is that I switch out summer dresses and skirts for winter long jackets in the longer hanging section of my closet to the basement closet, and I switch out a stack of heavier winter sweaters for shorts and summer pants. I also put away tall boots in summer and switch them for sandals (I can remove and replace shelves in my shoe storage to accommodate different configurations).

I like the idea though of not having to see winter stuff in the summertime, and vice versa. So little of my wardrobe is actually four-season that a switch makes a lot of sense.

I always thought that a seasonal wardrobe switch out only made sense for those with more extreme weather (although, living in the desert I did have extreme weather fluctuations!). Anyway, Jenn's post aboutswitching out her seasonal capsule inspired me to switch things up in my closets, since we live in the same climate. I live in a quirky hundred year old building in a zero bedroom apartment that I'm sure used to be part of a larger unit. I have what must have originally been a coat closet (complete with built in angled shoe shelves), and a small walk in that was probably the original bathroom.
I decided to move everything that I am likely to use regularly during the summer/early fall to the original closet (including light outerwear), and switch shoes around accordingly as well. I also hung my active capsule in outfits on the far left side (instead of folded in a drawer), so that I can grab and go in the mornings. The walk in closet now has a small hanging space on the left for my weekly outfits, my drawers for tees, sweaters, accessories, jammies, shorts, and SoonToBeMrCS'sthings, and then hanging space for the warmer pieces I am not likelyto grab for until later in the year. This also inspired me to clear a few things out.
I don't know why I never did this before- it makes so much sense!
