Fehrtrade.com - Melissa recently started a pattern line for technical workout wear, and she's featured pictures of several customers who've made up her patterns, of all ages.

If you feel comfortable with the skin tone of your calves, for warmer weather skirted capris are great, mine are from Athleta. If you want more coverage, full length spandex leggings with longer, butt covering t shirts are very popular with older people in my neighborhood. The second look is especially nice for women who may not want to show a lot of skin, but are pretty happy with their silhouette overall.

My Oma did gymnastics every week until half a year before her death (she loved to leave the hospital staff goggly eyed when they saw her range of movement and coordination, for her age). I know that she wore clothes for exercising that you might not find under sportswear, but rather when you search for loungewear. Of course that's only an option for indoor sports, but I think it's a good one if you don't need super technical fabrics because you're not out in the rain and wind. Of course if you're doing a sport where you need specialized gear that's a different thing.

You are not alone! I know there are some Fabbers in their 60s (at least) who like to exercise. Joy and Gaylene pop immediately to mind but I suspect there are others as well.

An idea: you might consider changing the subject heading of this thread to include your question, e.g. Workout wear for over 55? (Or something like that) You might get more responses that way.

I am in my 50s and exercise both indoors and out. You're right that even workout wear has a fashion aspect -- the fabrics and technologies change and so do the preferred (or available) silhouettes.

Looking truly fashionable in workout wear isn't really a goal of mine; I'm more interested in whether the outfit functions well for whatever I'm doing! Oh, and washes easily. :)

So, what I wear really depends on the season and the sport. I lift weights -- for that I wear a workout tee or sleeveless shell and workout shorts or capris. I do wear the snug ones and I don't care that I don't look like a 20 year old in them. Too darn bad! Let the viewer look away. I am there to get my exercise, not to be ogled.

For running, I wear shorts or tights, depending on season. For skating, I wear lots of layers!

I guess the main point is that I don't really factor my age into it at all. The only possible exception is for workout bras. There was a time when I seemed to be able to manage the contortions required to get those no-fasten bras on and off. But that time has past. I want a proper back fastening bra for my workouts, thank you very much. ;)

Anyone know of any blogs or such for ideas or inspiration for older women to dress fashionably for sports and athletic activities? I think I dress well, get lots of inspiration, opinions, etc. from this forum, Angie, Pinterest, etc. for my social life, but where are things for us oldies who are aged out of shorts and sleeveless, all that body con spandex like bicycle gear, etc.

I know there are many of you on here who go to the gym, maybe ride bikes, etc. Are you all 20, 30 somethings or any oldsters like 60 or 70's?
