I really like this. I think the textural element of the skirt works beautifully with everything you have worn with it. I like it with the booties and think it is flattering rather than JFE. I don't mind the long boots either, although I prefer the version without tights where there is a peek of skin between the skirt and the boots. This doesn't read schoolgirl to me - I think it was great choice.

Beth Ann, I am a big sucker for this style of skirt. I'm not minding the "too much leather" but I do think your other looks are better and more in tune with SINGing. Perfect length too. Will look great with some lacy or dotty patterned tights

I am really late here -- but I agree with all that this is a really fun piece and you are wearing it with panache! I especially love it with the booties and look forward to seeing it with the Munros, too -- they will certainly work. Also, in early autumn you might wear with your cage sandals if the skirt does not feel too hot for that. And I love #7 as well! So in winter sheer hose (since you run warm) and shoes or booties are the way to go!

I LOVE the skirt (but I am sucker for leather/leather-like) materials. If you have an olive green jacket (in jeans fabric/parka style, but short), I recommend you trying it.

Not that the classics don't work; they do! Really well! It's just so you can take the most out of your wild card.

I saw this skirt and would have bought it if I didn't already have a pleated black knit skirt. The longer length is so welcome. Your styling doesn't say school girl to me unless you add plaid. I especially like 4 and 7.

So many great ideas! I've had a long day out and about, and it was nice to come home to helpful feedback and suggestions. A leather skirt is definitely an outlier for me, but it helps me practice having fun with fashion!

Meredith: The sweater in #1 is quite versatile -- I think I'll definitely try it with hose and booties.

BJ: Glad you liked it with the leopard. I've been hesitant about this sweatshirt, since grey is not my best color, but find it helps me pull together lots of outfits.
I hope they restock the skirt! It runs generous!

Zibbets: There should be more leather (but not more skin) in church. Definitely.

KKards: I do like black out --- as a singer, I get my chance to wear it often. In everyday life, I've moved more to "near black out" I'll give it a whirl with this skirt. The texture of leather breaks up the color in its own way.

Karie: Love Lemmings!

Jeannie: Fortunately, I have at 2 pairs of black booties, and the cranberry Munro Robyns! I think I might try grey tights, too.

I would love to have suede boots, Lyn, although I've always imagined them in chocolate brown!

Marianna: I hear you on climate. Fortunately, I'm a suburban car commuter, so I can go barelegged down to 50 degrees pretty easily for work. Still, I had expected to be able to wear this with tights and booties -- I didn't anticipate the heaviness of that look. You and Lyn both mentioned suede boots. I have suede booties, but no tall boots. Sigh.

Augergine: I've had to learn that its always an option to say --- this is a great outfit, but it's not a great outfit for me!

UF: I'm draped in a big cocoon sweater right not -- almost black, with tweedy flecks. I might try it with the skirt and see how it goes. And yes, I was surprised how well the oxfords work with the skirt.

Super fun, Beth Ann! Love how versatile the skirt is. I actually don't mind it paired with the tall boots but prefer it with the tights underneath. Mind you I'm not seeing it in real life, but it doesn't bother me. Very nice church outfit - LOL at what your friend said. I think your acronym is fab.

I like the skirt, and like the sheer dark hose + oxfords--would try that with the lighter top. And #4!
And even though it's pleated, it does hang quite straight and flat, not exactly pencil but not too full, so I'd try it with an even more oversized/fluid sweater or sweatshirt-tsyle top if you have one--along the lines of de-bombshell. I think the skirt is slim enough to tolerate the larger top proportions.

Such a fun skirt! I especially like it with the sheer hose in #7 and wonder if those would also work to erase stumpification fears with the black booties. In general, I think the top, shoes, hose, and boots in #7 are a great combination and could see it working well with a lot of cardigans or jackets. Also really like the purple sweater in #1 with it.

And I had to laugh at "overripe schoolgirl." I'm all too familiar with outfits that are cute in theory, but wind up looking like that on me!

What a find, Beth Ann! I love number 7. Angie wrote a "how to wear leather" --(skirts, specifically, I think) post. I'll try to find it. I seem to recall her suggesting to pair them with booties, rather than tall boots, suede was especially good to provide contrast, and maybe a soft, silk blouse on top. Anyhow, you're doing a great job!

Beth Ann, I really like it! My fear is usability in our climate because I also prefer it with a bare leg/sheer tights, and pumps. It looks less pretty to me with boots. Do you have any suede boots? That might be a good balance. I do like it with the booties! Fun skirt!

Ah, so this is THE SKIRT! Great fabric indeed! In fact DD has now a pleated skirt(with thinner pleats-so guess it reads even more of a schoolgirl thing) of a similar shinny fabric, and everybody is fooled to be real leather, then great!:-(.

I so agree, leather is not going to match too much of another leather too easy, even if it's (p)leather. Or, it has to have another texture at least, say suede boots, did you tried BethA? I have and like my suede tall boots for this reason. Suede booties feel even more dressier, and I like them paired not only to my leather pencil, but to any other items from my holiday capsule(including a lace skirt/dress).

Now back to your looks here. I like nr 1,2,3, 4 and 7 the most. They feel the most balanced up ref. color intensity on top and bottom. The others are also great, but both nr 5 and 6 needs black sheers with the tall boots(not opaques, nor bare legs) to my humble opinion. Does it resonate with you?

I like what that woman said about your style BethAnn(you've been remarked in the past for sure)! She had right, all is in the details, and I would take it a sophisticated compliment!

This looks great. I have a similar skirt so am watching for ideas myself. I think the only one I'm not liking is the tall boots - a bit too much "leather". I think the booties look good, would also work with tights or sheer black hose.

wow, you have really made that skirt yours. YLF. love how you have styled it. now i'm going to be the outlier, but #5 is my fav. i love it here with the black boots, but i agree with you that in #6 it looks like leather overload. not sure why #5 works for me, but #6 doesn't, but i think its because there is less contrast with the topper. in fact, i would love to see this as a "black-out" outfit, although i know that most people don't like to dress that way.

Surprised by how much i really really liked the booties plus grey leopard with the skirt. Super flattering. Ikwym about leather on leather, how you wore it tho is restrained, especially if i can see some skin /lightness at the break between the skirt hem and the top of the boot. And you dont wear harley regalia on top at the same time! But you wouldnt, would you?

Disappointed that the skirt is sold out!

So fun! The last look is my favorite! I think the oxfords are playful with the skirt, but I also think the tights and blue make everything blend nicely. What about your booties plus tights plus the top from 1? Have fun playing! I'm sure everyone will give you great suggestions!

Thanks so much everyone, for taking the time to chime in:

Eliza: I can't believe a white shirt under sweater or jacket hasn't occurred to me. Of course, mine is fitted and too short, but the idea would definitely work, as long as it didn't look to young on me. Thanks for the ideas!

Kelly: Pumps do work surprisingly well with this skirt -- I'm going to try my tortoise shell toned pumps, too, but I haven't figured out which top would pair well with it.

Adelfa: Yes, just what is too much leather? I used to have this strong urge to go head to to leather whenever DH had a pastoral interview. You know, I also figured that would take care of any unwritten expectations of me!

Sveta: Thanks for the reminder of Angie's post -- I'll reread!

What a fun piece! Looks great Beth Ann and I am sure you will enjoy playing with the skirt in your closet.
Angie did a post on leather skirts at some point and she mentioned there that tall leather boots are too much with the leather skirt. Suede boots in lighter color may work better but I really like it with the booties - this is the most current look to my eye. Love # 4 the best - try it with cranberry Robyn booties too! I also quite like #7 with oxfords - another fun look.

What a great skirt. It suits you beautifully. I love the outfit you wore to church as well as the last one. I'd like to see the booties with a different top--combined with the cropped, squared-off top I agree there's not enough lengthening going on, but it may not be all the booties' fault.

I've been told that it's too much leather to wear tall boots with a leather moto jacket--I'm not sure myself, but I've wondered, and Angie I believe has said it's not. In the pics your tall boots look good to me, but I definitely know that feeling that it might be too much.

The bare legs and the sheer hose are brilliant. If it were me I might try patterned tights. Nothing too sexy like lace, but just a quiet little pattern like thin stripes or dots. To me a pattern (with a sheer background) modernizes the black nylons look.

Again, really nice skirt and you're doing a great job with it.

What a fun piece! I love it with the pumps, booties and the sheer hose. Those are really awesome looks. I see what you mean about the tall boots. It's a little much! You look terrific. Enjoy your wildcard!

That skirt is quite a fun wildcard, isn't it? I like it on you and can see how styling it would vary from working with a similar skirt in a different fabric.

If you are feeling cut off in the black booties , perhaps you could try them with the sheer black hose you are wearing in the last photo and see if the lower contrast appeals. That last photo had me swooning as the two piece dress look is extra special. Could be fun to try sweaters with a somewhat lower and interesting hem line (slightly asymmetrical) to see how those work. Also fun could be to layer a drapey button down shirt under a roomy sweater short enough to reveal the shirt hem a la Angie's recent blog example (one I remember was Inge in the AT white shirt with her window pane sweater). Enjoy seeing how you are styling this. You look fab.
