1.0 but working to get to 2. My go to is a tie-like - Runcarla, very much like yours.

I think scarves and brooches are both somewhat unusual in North American corporate dress (which is the bulk of my dressing needs), so I find it a delicate balance - being bold but not outside the corporate lines.

I’ve had a ‘thing’ for silk scarves the last half dozen years, but I wear them in maybe half a dozen ways - so, 2.0? I really got into wearing head scarves when DH bought a ramshackle (but still cool) convertible in 2020 and we started driving around our county exploring. I also:

-wrap and tie around neck (like a turtleneck)
-wear like a ‘tie’ (see below)
-attach to handles of bag/purse.

I like my scarves to stay put and not slither around.

#1: that is a pretty scarf.

#2: You wear it so well! I like both versions!

I used to view scarves as formal or fussy but I don't, anymore. Once I found some that I could tie (or just drape) in ways that worked easily for me, I started wearing them regularly. Now they are a bit of a signature item for me, at least in the cooler months. Even when they are less "in style" I tend to add one. It's partly because of the short hair -- a proportion issue, as well as warmth.

Speaking for myself, I think of “indoor” scarves as a decorative element or accessory in an outfit. For a while it has seemed (at least to me) that most people have pared down their purely “decorative” pieces in favor of more casual attire.

Mirjana--thanks!
Angie--thank you! hate to say, I'm not sure. (just looked it up...looks like this is the better way to tie the knot, so I will try that next time.)
Aquamarine--thank you. I'm not sure what you mean about scarves post-pandemic, unless you mean people were using them to cover their faces.
Bonnie--thanks. It really is an item that makes an easy impact, like large sunglasses. My mother always wore large sunglasses, and it looked like she had a mysterious story behind her.
Jaime--thank you! although checking again, it looks like Rhoda did the half-Rhoda before I did.

I'm a 1.0, too. I wear them for warmth in winter and for sun and mosquitos in the summer. I really like all the ways you've tried your scarf. It's a great way to add a third piece to a hot weather outfit.

I like all your renditions. You wear them well. I wish I could wear scarves more, but the last few winters I’ve been too warm to wear them outdoors and indoors, well, it feels contrived post-pandemic.

Where are you on the scarf knowledge continuum? 1.0, 2.0, 3.0? I am definitely 1.0.

Which means I've been wearing it the most common way: in winter, wrapped in an infinity or once/twice around style, over a warm shirt.

Decided to play around with this one today, which could really suit any season. The first is sort of a knotted-at-the-neck look, and I like how it shows some skin. The second I call the "half-Rhoda"...it's the Rhoda headwrap style, but with the head exposed. My favorite is the second--the first looks a little formal in my town, but could be played around with.

I do really like this Met tutorial...I like the first photo. I will definitely try that next.
https://store.metmuseum.org/bl.....-nine-ways

I think that there is a problem with scarves for people like me, and there are a lot of people like me. People who grew up in very casual towns, and people who grew up with mothers in the garden--mothers more comfortable in jeans and a sweatshirt than a scarf. Scarves read so formal, and so proper. But I don't think they need to be, and that's something I'm interested in.
